Please No Fighting but: Goblin Camp 0.1 is out
« on: July 14, 2010, 11:49:01 pm »

Seriously do not start more of the same garbage that had the last /three/ Goblin Camp threads closed but I thought it was time for revival and so: the very first alpha-ish-or-whatever release of Goblin Camp is out now at www.goblincamp.com

In which you can do stuff kind of, and also mod in stuff fairly easily. Not an awful lot to say about it for me - I was having some interface bugs with menus when using windowed mode, I'm sure that'll be fixed up sooner or later, but I thought it was worth bringing up again, anyway. Get you some.

With the interface being one of the first things mentioned I am a little disappointed it's not more polished. Sometimes it's a little unresponsive and I can click through some menus, though Keyboard shortcuts are certainly a welcome addition. I'll need to use a larger character set to play for long periods as, with a large resolution, using the mouse is fiddly.

Gameplay wise not too much to comment on yet, though he has done well with the basics. It will certainly be interesting to see where this project goes.

Not sure about increasing the font size but you can change the fullscreen resolution by editing the config.ini file. Lowering it should make the letters larger for playing on large screens (I play on a 55" widescreen). Here's my config.ini:

Code: [Select]
<Config>
  <fullscreen>true</fullscreen>
  <width>1280</width>
  <height>720</height>
</Config>

It's erroring me about MSVCR100.dll.

I downloaded the .dll file and put it into sys32. Nothing.
Then I moved it to the goblincamp file. Still no luck.

What's going wrong here.

The only thing I saw was the download link.

Hah, I feel stupid now.

However, the download-missing-.dll file method worked when one of my other games starting throwing up errors.
Call it mental memory. "Hey, downloading the missing file worked in the past so it should work here."

OK, I have played a quick game and am now seeing spots from the Dwarf Fortress-esque grass.
I can safely say several things:

1. The grass has given me a headache.
2. My team of goblins and orcs were dumbfounded by the concept of "put seed in ground to get berry plant" and my helpful contribution of a farm plot was completely ignored.
3. You Require More Vespine Gas Trees

Heh. I remembered Goblin Camp and checked the site today, and noticed that it came out. Downloaded it, and I have to say it has potential.

I wish there was a option to speed up time ingame. Oh well. Has potential, considering this is probably someone who works too.

It's also open source. Hopefully at some point the team will widen.
