I don't know if this has been discussed before in this thread; it's kinda long.

I get terrible frame-rates with this program. At medium or far distance viewing I get about 1 fps. My system doesn't have great graphics processing, but it can run some modern games just fine. Is there something I'm missing or why is this running so poor?

Just tried this out for the first time tonight.  I find it hard to believe that a simple 3D viewer could require this much processing power.  Full CPU load when running this on medium, but medium draw distance isn't really adequate for outdoors, and anything higher drops fps into single digits.  This is a decent gaming rig, and if I can render Oblivion or Crysis or any other modern 3D game at maximum graphics with great performance, I'm guessing I should be able to render several thousand cubes.  (Actually, now that I think about it, part of the problem might be having to render each tile as a six-sided cube rather than rendering only the visible faces.  I'm not sure how this renderer works)

This will be a fun program when it's better optimized and has a full set of meshes and textures.  I would even work on those kinds of things myself, but I think the CPU demand needs to be reduced in the meantime.

@NW_Kohaku, could I have some of your textures added to that topic actually? Some of them are really nice like the microcline.

OP, is this still using a modified version of DFHack? And if so, is there a list of what modifications you made?
