Trading with goblins wouldn't be anything new. I had several 40d worldgens where the goblins ended up making peace with the dwarves and would send caravans almost every season. Their goods were only slightly less useless than what the elves brought.
It tended to happen when I used the orc mod; maybe the dwarves and goblins had banded together against a common enemy or something like that.
