Dude you should have made the shell out of microcline and olivine, then painted the world on that sphere.

Why does this remind of the death star due to the giant obvious hole in one of the sides.

also, That collapsing would be a really cool thing to use as a last resort attack against seiging armies.
Seriously, having a giant sphere dropped on you, that everyone within miles of your fort could see, has got to be the flashy-est deathtrap you've ever seen.

If you want to slay a dragon: Throw a pebble. If not successful: Try a bigger pebble.

Execution shaft aka. dwarven wormhole

Works as follows: Things enter one end, emerge at the other and then get eaten by worms.

Also, I realised this is the best noble deathtrap ever. I mean, you could carve out a luxuray space inside the sphere for them, and then, when they get too annoying, make them pull the lever and watch the whole sphere plunge into the volcano.

Ok, I collapsed it. It was spectacular.

Here's an animation: http://imgur.com/Ul6uT.gif

Looks like it displaced enough lava to overflow the volcano :D
Also, calculating the collapse took a minute fifty. 26 dwarves were killed instantly, with another plumetting to his death. There was a healthy tantrum spiral going within a minute or two after.

That was AWESOME.
