Yes! Proper bedroom assignments! Maybe now I can encourage my doctor to hang out by the hospital without resorting to burrows! I'll actually dig some apartments out now, which will be exciting.

What's the difference between SDL and Legacy. o.o
I, too, would like to know this. Not just "Use SDL", but what are the differences? What _is_ legacy and what _is_ SDL? Graphic changes?

SDL is a cross-platform application framework. The SDL version of DF uses that framework and so runs on mac and linux, along with including Baughn's new opengl code, which should be faster, allows png files for tilesets, zooming with the mousewheel, etc. The SDL version is quite new, so isn't proven yet. It's also being actively worked on, getting features like "separate files for graphics and font", and true-type font support.

Legacy is Toady's old code, only kept in case the SDL version doesn't work for someone. There is no legacy version for mac or linux.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I'm trying to get 0.31.12 Linux to work. I'm running 64bit Arch, the error I get when I run sh df is "data/art/foo.png not found." As far as I can tell, this normally means that libsdl_image isn't installed, but I have lib32-sdl_image and lib32-libpng installed. The SDL versions (d18, etc.) used to work flawlessly, with the same configuration. What gives?

Based on latest devlog, it looks like 31.13 is imminent. I'd be surprised if it takes more than a week.

I certainly hope not, anyway; got a few days off from work next week, and I'd like to rock out a new Fortress in a new version.

There are no hotfixes that I know of.  The fixes that Toady's describing in the dev log will become available in 31.13.

It should work on 64 bit Linux if you have the the 32 bit versions of the required libraries, and your kernel has been compiled to run 32 bit code. I've been running 0.31.12 in 64 bit Gentoo Linux.

Since you seem to meet the requirements, maybe the problem is something so obvious that you overlooked it. Is the file actually not there, or has its name written in a different case? I wonder if you copied over init.txt from a previous version without copying over any tile sets it was setup to use.

Actually, that error is typically from having a libsdl-image that can't read PNGs.

You'd think that wouldn't happen.
