This isn't an accurate test. I suggest that people use the exact same folder, post their OS, kill all non-needed processes (including explorer.exe on windows), and post either their Windows preformance scores (which are surprisingly accurate) or their memory+speed, CPU model + clock speed + core number, graphics+sound card model and GPU. We can determine better results that way. DF isn't just a CPU task like many suggest it is. Why does decreasing G_FPS_CAP increase speed? Why does turning MUSIC:OFF increase speed? Because DF has to do all that as well. I don't mean to insult anyone who posted, but I feel this information is all useless.

Even if it's not the sole factor, FPS is heavily influenced byCPU. In any case, I find it interesting to know what kind FPS other people are getting.

I mostly agree with your post, except for these bits. The reason that graphics and sound affect speed so much is because DF requires so much CPU time, so freeing up any from graphics/audio helps.

That's what I mean, unless I'm misunderstanding you. DF has to do all that as well was what I said. But derailment aside, most people have been posting clock speeds. IMHO, clock speeds are worthless. Overclock an old Pentium to 3GHz and it'll be slower than an underclocked i7 at 2.5GHz.

1 minute  after unpausing ill get 68-92 fps, mostly steady around 85

sysspecs are:

i7 920 C0 @ 3.8 ghz, ht off
6 gb ddr3 @ 1600 mhz
fast gpu

edith says: tested with win 7

i5 750 @ 2.53 GHz : ~50 fps, running from 30-60.
4 Gigs 1333 (i think) DDR3
HD 5870
Will edit once I turn the overclock back on (silly mobo and its overclock protection)

...And what a difference! @3.8 I got 50-80fps, averaging around 70.

Athlon X2 5600+ 2.8GHz dual-core: 25-30 fps
EDIT: Changing to print-mode:standard only gets me a couple of fps more

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Exactly! :) I guess it's safe to say that i5/i7 is much better for gaming than the core2duo processors, even if their clock speed is lower. [I really thought that my E8400 won't be worse than a 2,66Ghz i5 in a game like DF, but actually the i5 beats my E8400 with 15-20FPS, and that is a LOT in a test like this..]   I am glad that I made this topic, because now I am thinking about upgrading to an i7 system.

Wow, nice score!..but again that is a decent system, hehe.

On a decent fort it is doing a scatter read/write on almost 500 megs of ram.

Cache-poison tastes bad. :(

Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 @ 2.53 GHz

30-42 fps starting towards the lower end of the range and ending at the upper end after a few seconds of digging.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2,66 GHz
nVidia Geforce 8600 GS 512 mb
2 gb RAM.

Ran at a ridiculous FPS (30000-40000) at the menu, and when I tested the save it was around 30-40 FPS all the time.

HP Mini 311 netbook - Atom N280 @ 1.66Ghz, 3GB ram, Nvidia ION, Win 7.
10-12 fps.

HP desktop - Pentium D 940 @ 3.2Ghz, 2GB ram, RadionHD 4850, Win XP.
25-28 fps.

Apple Macbook2,1 - Core2Duo @ 2.16Ghz, 4GB ram, GMA 950, OS X 10.5.8
(savegame moved to stock download of DF 0.31.12 for OS X and FPS:YES in ini)
20-22 fps.

Although it can't handle the population and layout of this savegame, I usually play on the Mini. (FPStest save game population is 7 dwarves, 1 tame animal, 50 humans, and 10 wild animals)
With the right embark, fortress design, and population cap I can keep my fps in the playable 20s on my mini. While it might not be zippy on there, I do have fun with it.

My take on any performance topics with Dwarf Fortress? I go with the "It's in alpha" stance. There is a lot of neat stuff going on in Dwarf Fortress that keeps us coming back and its got a price that cant be argued with.

I has been ecstatic lately. I have admired own finely crafted Volcano Fortress recently. I was comforted by a wonderful group of creatures in a Volcano Fortress recently. I took joy in the slaughter lately of Goblin and Kobold.

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Processor: Quad Core, 3.0 GHz

Game clocked at 30-40 FPS constantly.

Also, using tab to cycle through views (show/hide menu and map) didn't seem to make a difference.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4GHz)
8GB memory
Geforce GTX 260
Windows 7 64-bit

32-46 FPS. It only dipped down to 32 for a split second early on, and only hung around down near there for a few seconds, and likewise only briefly spiked up to 46 for a second or two. It mostly hovered around 41-42.
