Many rejected regions
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:32:00 pm »

I'm trying to create a new world.  Every time I've created one before, there have been several regions rejected - maybe up to a dozen or so.

In this try, I am currently at 185 rejected, and counting.

Did I just get lucky in all the earlier tries, or am I getting unlucky now?

I should mention that I changed the init file just before trying to create this world.  I don't think the changes I made should have had any effect like this, but just in case, they were:

INTRO:OFF
WINDOWED:YES
WINDOWEDX:800
WINDOWEDY:600
FONT:curses_800x600.bmp
VARIED_GROUND_TILES:NO
ENGRAVINGS_START_OBSCURED:YES
KEY_HOLD_MS:250

Nothing in the init file should affect world generation. You're just getting unlucky. There are several different stages for the reflection flag to pop up during the process, but what it ulimately comes down to is the pseudo RNG.

Some people get a very small number, sometimes the random number generator is just angry at you. Give it time and it will find something it likes. Its rather picky regarding the end results.
