With my computer out of commission, I've retreated to TV to stay sane.

Roommate recommended I start watching Shameless.

It's like if Weeds and Always Sunny had a baby, and then they had the movie Kids baby sit it.

Generally I'm not up for these kind of shows. It's a mix of comedy and drama centered around a low-income family where all the kids are highly self-reliant, thieves, sexually active, drinkers, smokers, drug users, their father is the town drunk, their sister is the mother of the household, and various other sundry drama.

Sounds great, right? It actually kind of is. It sort of speaks to how I grew up, the shit my family went through. The characters are really well done, the writing is good and often funny and, of course, William H. Macy makes it all better.

It also makes pretty much any HBO show look like Disney's Magic Kingdom in comparison to how much sex there is and how much T&A they show.

I recently re-watched the FIVE episodes of the clerks show, shame it didn't get more episodes.

Dirk Gently canceled after 2 seasons. Much sad.  :(

In other news, 'Travelers' also just finished it's second season imo it was pretty great. Really hoping this one gets renewed.

There's a chance Netflix might take it up, so there's that.

There's this film, disguised as a tiny wee little series (8 eps of 20 mins each) called 'The end of the fucking world'.
It's a small wonder of weirdness, warmth, heartbreak, and beauty.

It's on Netflix (EU region at least).

Just watched the 4 episodes of Castlevania on Netflix.

It's good! Going to get the rest of Season 1, or Season 2 I guess?

Got a few chuckles out of me. Plenty of great fight scenes. It's gory and violent the way old 80s anime used to be. The dialog has some wit and crassness in equal measure, good voice actors. It also has the look of the games in the back drops, the architecture. The episodes so far are the set up and back story for the characters but it looks like that mostly has wrapped up and the show will be full on with the vaniaing in the castle. As a fan of Castlevania I'm apt to be really critical of it and I don't know if I necessarily like how it starts. But after the second episode it hadn't been bad at any point and had already surprised me a couple times.

So yeah, looking forward to more of this when it gets made.

Just finished Season 5 of TNG... I don't know, I feel like a lot of episodes really phoned it in in S5. Like it was VERY hit or miss, lot of great episodes and a lot of lame ones. Got really bad towards the end of the season before rallying around I, Borg.

So uh, Altered Carbon is a thing and a rather definitive proof that good SF is found in shows and not neccessarily movies these days, mostly because they get way more time to explore ideas and settings and aren't forced to dedicate a portion of their runtime to action sequences.
Seriously, go watch it, it's pretty damn good from what I've seen so far.

I was hyped for it, but couldn't get through the first episode. I saw great visuals and interesting world building mired by wooden acting and unconvincing script.
Heck, maybe it improves later on, but the first impression was hardly positive.

There is some of that yes, but I think part of the acting is intentionally like that (atleast the main dude, some others are hard to figure out at this point), trying to convey the whole not in your own body anymore thing and the possible issues that might bring.

And yeah, the script could do with some more loosening up, tho I think again it's part of the first couple of episodes having to place all the worldbuilding blocks in place and the script is gonna have to suffer for that somewhat.

But beyond that, the world is way interesting and the little sidestories they're doing are pretty cool so I'm willing to stick with it on the merits of those alone.

Edit:
Ok, having finished it (yay binging) I'll stick to my reccommendation with a caveat that you'll have to bear trough some really bad writing/acting/editing at times. Be prepared for cool/interesting things sprinkled very liberally with cringe or not knowing what the fuck is going on because the scene transition was done in a shit way and despited sometimes overly saying and not showing they forgot to say where they were going.
