Is there a way to prevent dwarves eating seeds?
« on: August 10, 2007, 07:13:00 pm »

Because I would really appreciate it. I tried planting tower caps, with the dwarves suddenly developing a craving for tower-cap spawn, eating them rather than planting me, and leaving me without any crops to grow... This made me a sad fortress administrator.

I'll admit it was a pretty freakish thing to happen, but it'd still be nice to prevent the possibility from occurring again. Ever.

I'm sorrry but how do you plant tower caps? I thought they grew naturaly in the cave after flooding.

Are you sure your not mixing this up with some other seed?

Yes, I mixed them up. Probably wishful thinking in the lower recesses of my mind. I meant... those other mushrooms... which I completely forgot the name of.

Help, I'm posting at half past two in the morning, and I can't stop.

I have never known dwarfs to eat the seeds, even when starving...are you sure there not trying to plant them?

Dunno if this applies but there is one bug that happens with weather turned on.

It seems that seeds that have been rained on are useless. So the farmer takes the seed to the plot and you get an error message. The seed just goes poof into thin air.

Dwarves don't eat seeds. However, in the "Z => Kitchen" menu, you have the option to turn off seed cooking. You'll have to remove the cook option of every kind of seeds you possess.

If you have a cook and that he is allowed to cook seeds... It might be the reason why they are disapearing.
