Lots of them, actually.
Most I found were in modern day mexico, so maybe the northern ones are missing?

I landed pretty north, yeah, so probably that's why there are no natives there.

Ah, yes, first contact with the natives!

Also, do livestock breed if I put them in a settlement like the colonists?

And what do colonists do anyway? Other than breeding like crazy insects.

Trade with the indians...

Though they don't seem to bring in much profit tbh.

Also, I don't think livestock can breed, can they? If they can, I'll get RICH!

I earned 14k from maybe 6 or 7 trinkets I brought back from some hunter gathers on Cuba.

I imagine the named tribes have better stuff, but I was in no shape to trade when I found them.  Also, a bit surprised they had steel weapons.  Perhaps placeholders for obsidian? I know they used to have the same value in DF :)

Yeah, East North America is pretty unpopulated... I think that's how it was back then (or so it said in the docs I took as a base)

Colonists do nothing but exist right now, and add to the population count so you can have bigger colonies and thus greater nobility titles

In future versions you'll be able to trade with other European and Asian ports in addition to the native robbing thing.

Livestock doesn't breed for now, that one's been suggested already (as well as having them consume food)

The natives with steel weapons is a bug introduced in the latest version :P

Thank you all for your comments! They have been very helpful so far! game continues growing!!

Yo Slashie, about that...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1491:_New_Revelations_of_the_Americas_Before_Columbus

It is one popular new theory that the North American East was so densely populated at the time of Columbo (his real name) that it was not even slightly feasible for a settlement to be established. Following that, another theory is that it took many years of pressure and European disease to reduce the population enough for colonies to be established there.

Slashie, as with before, I've noticed you spelled "chariot" wrong about (charriot).

Might want to fix that.

I've got to bump this thread.  0.3.1 RC2 was released to the playtesters today or yesterday, and I just blew through several hours fooling around with it.  It is still a very early development game, but I was able to make very deep inroads with colony development and exploitation and trade with the indeginous people of the New World.

You can get a hold of the tester versions of the game by siging up here:  http://slashware.net/blog/contribute/ basically you just have to ask Slashie.

I'm really digging this game, and the road map (Slashie posts his planed features on a Mantis bug tracker) looks really inspiring.

Thank you very much puke!

It's beem almost two months working on the game and it's proving to be more challenging than I expected. Hopefully I can get thru the v0.3 branch (User Interface and Globe Map Model) and start adding gameplay and content to make for a more interesting game.

Next week I'm going to organize all the features into a more structured roadmap, so you people can have an idea of what the game is aiming to be.
