Holy christ, so this is what happens when you leave the Cave Spiders to do as they please with cavern layer 2.

More or less, yeah. I haven't modded any creatures or anything else relevant to what I'm seeing here--just custom reactions and workshops.

This is the undisturbed cavern layer 2 after 20 years of Dwarves living in the layer above (and the surface, obviously).

I built 26 Looms around the map on cavern layer 1. The biggest issue so far is that a percentage of those webs are GCS webs--lots of job interruptions taking place. In fact, 2 GCS have sprung from ambush so far, along with constant Draltha, Crundle, Cave Croc, Giant Toad, and Voracious Cave Crawler attacks.

Do webs burn?  I almost have to think magma flooding the whole place would be the simplest solution to this...

There are so many unskilled children who already had their fey mood that I have no qualms whatsoever about training an army of woodcutters and weavers to deal with it. :D

Here it is with a good chunk of progress knocked out:

Note the Giant Cave Swallow soon to be captured to the western map edge.

I had a fort where I left the cavern layers alone for ~20 years, and we're talking Tree Bonanza. Endless Forest. Can't See the Forest For the Trees. ZOMG Timber. Yeah. I think the only movement possible was mostly diagonal through the gaps.

I caught 2 dwarves trapped in tiny nooks by sudden tree growth. Had to get miners in to dig them out because the entire map's worth of trees was designated for chopping, and I didn't want to undesignate it to get a rapid response woodcutting team in there.

Use a burrow. Define one around the guys and assign a woodcutter to it temporarily.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

If it was me, I'd concentrate more on capturing those GCSes and making a GCS reactor.  Limitless, convenient, safe silk for the benefit of dwarvenkind!

But I already have one :) It's upstairs in the bedroom level.

Heh, only in DF?  Only in DF can people get trapped by fast-growing trees. :D
