I caught 2 dwarves trapped in tiny nooks by sudden tree growth. Had to get miners in to dig them out because the entire map's worth of trees was designated for chopping, and I didn't want to undesignate it to get a rapid response woodcutting team in there.
Use a burrow. Define one around the guys and assign a woodcutter to it temporarily.

Burrows are a super-useful trick that I haven't yet started making much use of.

Only in Dwarf Fortress.

Actually, Im pretty sure that these exist for fighting fires in heavily wooded mountains in real life.

Do webs burn?  I almost have to think magma flooding the whole place would be the simplest solution to this...
It can be the only solution.

Yeah, except they use things like bulldozers instead of axes.  They go in and tear up everything flammable in the path of the fire to try to stop it.

This fortress is turning into some kind of supervillain lair or something.
You do remember that you've been farming gigantic wingless dragon-fish for profit and Fun, right?

Trees. The most devious and cunning race of Dwarf Fortress.

They're relentless, always sieging you. Doors don't stop them, in fact, nothing does! If they're not directly trying to strangle your dwarves to death with their thick branches, they'll sneak in through your waterways and block access to everyone not equipped with an axe. Even the most powerful military is helpless against them.

The elves are in league with the trees. That's why they don't want you to kill them. They want to see the trees bring your people to their knees, so they can sit in your legendary dining hall, drinking your booze among the dehydrated corpses that was once a bustling community of craftsdwarves, creating masterpiece after masterpiece.

Don't be fooled by the elves. Burn them with magma. And then burn the trees with magma. Make trophies of their corpses. A wooden bed for every dwarf.

Why stop at one wooden bed for every dwarf?

Because they never sleep in the right bed anyway.

Yeah, so are ice walls. I don't see your point.

I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

You know what they say: "If a tree kills alone in the forest, does it make a sound?"
