I've been reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy lately, though, and I can't help but think an overhaul mod based on it would be awesome. The amount of subterfuge in those books plus the whole magical vs. non-magical side of things would make for awesome mechanics. Probably not doable, but awesome if they were.

I have no clue how it could be modeled well, but it would be completely awesome if someone did somehow manage to do it.

I really do like the idea however of a 10 person stack (aka, a master magician and his summons) beating a 20 thousand man army however.

Why not make a Masters of Magic mod then?

In my experience you need to have emirates or sultanates to keep family members from generating decadence as an empire. How you could do it with only counties each is a mystery to me. Anyway,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)Need multiple emirates for each male legitimate relative. Also, always observe Ramadan.

--- Quote ---Acquiring Decadence

You get more Decadence because of unlanded members of your dynasty within your realm. Only dynasty members at your court contribute to Decadence. Dynasty-members who are younger than 16 years old or who are female do not affect decadence either. Also, do note that any dynasty-members who are barons still give you more Decadence; they have to be counts or above for them to not increase your decadence. You can also become more Decadent because of events which are triggered by bad traits(Cruel, Cynical, Arbitrary etc.)

I'm pretty sure now that my +0.30 decadence thing was a bug though. A bit bullshitty too, but what can you do.

I believe I've figured out the problem, and it's kind of shitty in terms of game mechanics honestly. Decadence generation is reduced by the number of demesne holdings that the person has. As a result, even if you give them more land they'll often just give it away because they can't handle it, making them impossible to prevent from generating decadence. I believe this could be dealt with by ensuring your sons all get stewardship educations, and marry good stewardship first wives, but that's a bit silly if you ask me, so I'm just going to stick to expanding rapidly enough to get decadence decreases due to land grants. Executing newborn grandsons can work wonders, too.

Event: [Random Courtier] has summoned a beast of unimaginable power in London!

Several buildings are destroyed!

[Random Courtier] is killed! [Your Ruler] is killed! [Your Only Heir] is killed!

Incidentally, there's an event like this in the Games of Thrones mod...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)Pet dragon?  What could possibly go wrong?

NRDL:
My French game is still continuing, and going well.  I don't have any duchies, and the max counties have had was three, and the third one I gave to my ruler's son.  Still, pretty strong.  I'm gonna hunt the one province counts, add them to my ragtag demense.  I intend to become strong enough, if not to become king, or a duke, then at least get enough money and military power to Holy War the Moors out of Spain.

Is it normal to have the Holy Roman Empire control the southern half of the Iberian peninsula?

Yup. You'll almost always see either France, England or the HRE with some provinces in Spain. The main reason for this is nations being able to Holy War whoever they want rather than it being limited to neighbours.

My games almost always result in Castile and friends being stomped by the Muslims and the HRE/England/France coming in to steal a couple duchies.
