Given the tradition so far, I'd say go to the next overseer in the list. The current one could be bumped to the next available spot, after this interim overseer finishes, rather than bumping him to the end.

I second this, let's keep this party rolling!

Of course I say this because I can't wait to get my hands on this mess!

So I am the next one, huh? I didn't expect Failcannon to survive THAT long.
Downloading the save.
EDIT: Holy sh*t, this place is such a mess, that my PC almost fried when I tried to unpause it. And my DF crashed every single time I did so. Any sugestions?

Which version of DF are you using?
Its become hard to tell who upgraded the version and when...
Or is the save being stored with a full copy of the game?

0.31.25, I think.

I replaced the save's raw folder and copied over the raws from 31.03 (not sure when the cut-off is, but I tried 31.18 at first and it crashed after unpausing).

Just for fun, I tried updating further using DF World Tinker; raw changes:
  • Materials/templates, items, and buildings are on par with 0.31.25.
  • Pre-existing plant and creature entries now match their .25 counterparts (except for the strangler, which keeps 2EYES:1EYE instead of 3EYES--the game gets cranky if you fiddle with body defs), but no new creatures or plants (grasses) added.
  • Reactions are on par with 0.31.25, with the exception of mead stuff (no bees); ceramics should work, if caravans bring clay (don't think there's any on-site). Bone blocks now have their own reaction rather than replacing nickel silver.
Seems to work well enough so far. Which may just mean there's something non-obvious lurking in the background, waiting to unleash bizarre and unspeakable horrors.

... DF as usual, in other words.

I did everything that the guy above said. Unpausing didn't crashed my DF. Yay.

Can't wait for my turn! Also, I hope that since Takuanuva updated the raws that means everyone who comes after him doesn't have to?
Another thing: I keep saying "... ? ... profit" everywhere, can somone explain this to me? (I know, I know, this is off topic...) Last, is it OK if I download the save and look around at the fort?

a. Yes, provided Andux remembered to keep the belch->cannon language_words change. If he didn't, someone please fix that.
b. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/profit
c. Sure, go ahead.

Journal of Takua Bimzasit:
(I have started at the begining of the Opal, so I'l finish this year (less than 2 months) and play for another one.)
Opal
...
I was chosen to oversee Failcannon during this year. Mayor himself told me that. It seems that it's my duty to keep us all alive, so I'l do my best.
...
I didn't noticed how chaotic Failcannon is until I became the Overseer. Stockpiles and graves are literaly everywhere. I need to fix it.
...
The ocean of ooze. I need to do something with it. It's way too dangerous, and it makes a huge area inhabitable. If I remember correctly, the ooze itself makes living things rot. Quickly.
...
I have designed some new bedrooms along with a dining hall and some stockpiles underneath.
...
Someone has left the front gate open. That's bad. We need to close It as soon as possible. Some guys went out...
...
Another forgoten beast was spoted in the caves. There are lots of them around these days.
...
Some dog, along with a cat, has died because of the infection today.
...
Soaplope Deletholin, The Woodcutter and Amost Nomalvumom were killed by the skeletal horses. The Creative Seals were ordered to kill those horses, but they didn't managed to save these guys. Some of the Seals got hurt quite bad.
There are 50 of us left now.
...
Iden Tenshedkel, our blacksmith, has organized a party. I think we need some rest, so he was allowed to continue.
...
I've designed a pump to elevate magma from the depths of the earth to the surface. Good news is, that we have a good spot to build it. Unfortunatelly, we need almost 90 magma-safe pumps...
...
This will be our pump's powersource. I'l hook it up to the lake in the cave above using some stairs I found that aren't connected to anything else.
...
End of Opal

I can add some photos if you need them.
I'm currently in the middle of Obsidian, next month as soon as I finish it (should take less than a week).
