I'm curious to know about what important features that you put in your fortress that serve a functional purpose but aren't "a building".

Things like:
Garbage Chute
Swimming Pool
Danger Room
Arena

I feel like there are a lot more that are out there that I don't know about.

-Hospital
-Prison (for the justice system)
-Tombs
-Superweapon + control room
-Artifact storage/display case room
-POW camp w/ confiscated gear storage and sparta pit or military proving grounds
-Booze room (make dwarves walk past decorations on the way to alcohol storage)
-Party rooms (with flashing gem windows and a mist machine. think saturday night fever!)
-Pet cat breeding prevention/euthanasia room
-Zoo (since 31.19, you can only have carnivores on display; grazing animals starve)
-Archery tower (accessed from underground; protect the surface from safety!)
-Guard dog watchposts (to spot ambushing intruders before they hit your first line of defense)
-Fort history records (a large room with lots of engraved walls and floors)
-Mist machine (improves happiness for dwarves in mist)

I know there are more things you can do, they just don't come to mind right now...

Super-weapons are a must.

Also self destruct switches.

Not that they are necessarily separate devices.
