Do nuclear explosions allow a reflex save for half damage?

Hiding under this cheap table will protect me from the nuclear fire!

This is not really a thread for this, but I have to defend the poor turtle. People act like the duck and cover mantra was offering false hope, whereas it's a perfectly rational way of minimizing casualties in case of a nuclear attack. Most of the damage will be from the shock wave collapsing buildings and burying people under assorted rubble, not from the fireball and the flash - about which you can't do anything anyway if you're in their zone, not least because you wouldn't have any time to react. But if you see an explosion and are still alive and corporeal enough to make any sort of decision, then do hide under a table like Bert told you to.

I can see that several ways..

Minimizing secondary injury from falling debris is a good idea.  However, these informative jingles were given to a generation that no clue what so ever about what gamma rays do to living tissue. In some cases, if you see the flash and live, you might not actually want to survive the implosion of the house.  You have just been exposed to a very dangerous level of ionizing radiation, and will suffer all the consequences of that.

There were some very informative videos released in that period concerning fallout, and how it causes systemic exposure to ionizing radiation, so clearly the scientists and physicians involved in the creation of these videos knew.  The big deal to condemn, is that they prioritized "crowd control" over actual information transparency about the US's predicament concerning the USSR, and the risk of MAD.

Bert the turtle was a symptom, not the disease.

You'd think the mere fact that I post would be enough to clue people off.

Apparently not.

Cease.

This is probably a discussion best taken elsewhere, lest Derm get narkier.

I will not be besmirched like this.

Have a time out and think about what you've done.

they'll engage you in a brawl, charge at you until they knock you down, and then waddle back to their starting position with what I can only describe as smugness.

You know, that describes many a turn-based RPG's battle animations.
