Homeworld!  :o

This will be my first LP and likely end in disaster(for better or worse), but I plan to make it as interactive as possible. This may go against the common norm, but playing a game and showing off my gaming skills isn't really my style.

Anyway, back story/how this is going to work.

History

First off, a history lesson about Homeworld(this is based on memory, feel free to correct me).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Back Story

Some back story now. I really am just summarizing it. You can find pages of the stuff probably somewhere. Also, some of the back story parts will be left void for now, since the plot develops as you play. I'm not sure how I should present it, so expect a jumbled mess.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The detailed storyline would probably take up 2 pages on this forum. I can put it up if you really want to, but some Google foo should find you what you need.

Plans

Ok, so this is how I plan to do this(for now). People will assign themselves to specific squads, and order those around. Updates will increase during combat. I expect slow going(since this is an RTS), but that means a long LP!  ;)

The game also ramps up in difficulty as you go. I've actually only beaten the game once. Mission 14 is about the limit of my gaming skills. I could probably beat it if I tried harder, but as of now its a pretty long mission. Also, ships transfer over from previous missions, so if we screw up big time, we are really messed up late game. I can do restarts on a mission upon request.

Squads will be listed at the end of this post. Most will hopefully be specialized, since having a mixed up glob of units doing a specific task doesn't tend to do well.

Before the Mission

So, the first question. Are we.....

Kushan.

Or....

Taiidan

Colors too.

Rules, Data, and Ect(outdated till I'm bothered to update it)

Squads

Alpha Squadron: 10 Interceptors lead by Sheb
Beta Squadron: 7 light corvettes lead by Shadow

Ships

Going to reserve this for whatever.

Also, I think pictures arent showing up. Image hosting sites. =/

Let me see what I can do.

"Edit" Ok, I have to upload them one at a time on image shack in order to get the link I need. If anybody knows a image hosting site where I could upload in bulk, please let me know.

"Edit2" I dont know whats up with the white space. Any fixes?

Ok. To spice things up a tad bit, when signing up for an officer post, you can use this format for a little RP. Its not really required.

Name: Sage Manger
Age: 22
Job: Tactical Officer
Specialty: Overwhelming Offencive
Sex: Male
Background: (I cant be creative enough to think of one).

You guys can RP your posts, make discussions between officers and support staff(which will be everyone else not making decisions) and ect.

I'll be watching this. I haven't spoiled the plot for myself yet, but I doubt I'll ever get around to playing through the game. It's the fleet carry-over combined with OCD, mainly. I feel the need to replay missions until I capture nearly everything with as few losses as possible, which is really, really frustrating, but I can't stop without not playing the game.

I vote Taiidan, with black and yellow. Bee colors are fun.

For the white space, which program are you using?

Please save them as .pngs.

Ah. PNGS. Gotcha. Will do. Not uploading again though, since it took me an hour(I had to do it atleast 4 times, with one little problem coming up each time).

Oh, and you would die on Mission 14.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Edit" Forgot the program bit. I put the Homeworld disc in my tower, start it up, when I want a picture, I print screen. I paste it in paint, save it as jppg(not anymore), and upload it on image shack one at a time.

"Too many edits" One last things, why PNG?

Ok, after doing it myself, its quite obvious. Much higher quality. It actually looks more high quality than the actual game(lol). Anyway, I'll redo all the pictures since I have the time. Or most of them. The PNG also fixes the white area problem. Thanks.

"ONE LAST EDIT D:" Ok, I've decided to upload pictures of the colors people want. You can ask me to show it for the other faction if I do the other one.

Here is Nirur's suggestion:

I thought it looked more Bee Like/Awesome. Bright yellow was a tad disgusting.  :P

Plus, its near impossible to actually get bright yellow. Game likes dark colors. Closest thing I got was a yellow-ish green.

That's what happens when they give a brightness slider without a saturation slider.

 Whatever, roll with it.

I'll take a tactical position. Senior unless whoever else joins wants it. Doesn't matter too much to me.

Name: Jonas Valent
Age: 38
Job: Tactical Officer
Speciality: Carrier operations
Sex: Male
Background: Was in command of one of the fleets newest super carrier class carrier ships along with it's support fleet before being called in to be one of the primary tactical officers for the war effort.

Ok, I'm hoping to start later today. Maybe 8-10 hours from this post. Weekends are only so long, and I'll have a hard time squeezing in updates on weekdays(I could do maybe 1-2, since there will be about 10 updates per mission, or more. On weekends I could probably get an entire mission done if people are actively giving orders).

Also, if you havent played Homeworld, dont be afraid to take a position. You can always resign, and you can ask me to "do my best judgement". I will try to provide as much information as possible. You should try checking out that Homeworld Shipyard site I happened upon, it probably has some good info.

Oh, and put you up as Senior Tactical Officer Techno. Just a note for the lore,  they didnt have any carriers before the mothership. But it doesnt matter.

"Edit" I should probably explain why its possible to have an LP with an RTS. Normally in an RTS I would have to make an update every 20 seconds. However, Homeworld has extremely lengthened missions, it takes several minutes for a frigate to get from one place to another. So when something pops up, I stop what I am doing and update(unless my orders tell me to deal with "any immediate hostiles as you like").

I love this game and plan on watching.  (Well reading because Imageshack is blocked here).

Don't belive I ever actually finshed, but amazing game.  Multiplayer was amazing...

Amazing.  I was going to say how much I love X feature, but really, it was just a dream.  Homeworld 2 wasn't bad either.  Not going to take a position but best of luck.

Played this game so much i pride myself on knowing all its guts, foibles, crafty tricks and tactics/stratagems (good example would be the missile destroyer guarded by a gravwell generator and a cloak generator. instant invisible death for any and all vanilla strikecraft). modded it extensivley too with an aim on amplifying craft qualities and making you need to use them with skill in specialised roles - amplified fighter craft speed and manvouverability but made them more fragile and specialised (attack bombers were scary but liked going pop...)... corvettes with insane fire rates and trackng speeds but tiny damage... capital craft were slow and lumbering but huge hitters on anything they could catch and target (ion beams literally slicing things in one blast was pleasing)... improved the game no end from vanilla. never got in to cataclysm or 2 as much though... will be here for the ride willing to offer any adivce you need. i promise i can be of use.

Obvious referral, but I dont mind.

The thing I do mind is that it requires a full name. I really prefer not giving out my full name on the interwebs, I've given it out maybe twice to sites I really wanted to try. Also, does it link to images in a way I can display them on this website(so basically a direct link with no background jarble).

Well, what image hosting site would work? Dropbox? I got a lot of free time this weekend so I can reupload them.

I havent played Homeworld that hardcore(not playing multiplayer is part of the reason why). Best strategem I got devised is to have salvage corvettes in a sphere around a cloaker, sneak up and steal that frigate/destroyer. Perhaps you could be a Tactical Officer? Or really any other rank. Im not making this an inside the box kind of game. Just made some general guidelines to get us started.

I'm only referring so you don't have to hunt around for it. I have way more free space now than I need to actually use.

Anyway, it doesn't need your full name. I registered it with my screen name, it doesn't really care. All it needs of you that's authentic is your email. Also, my avatar image is on Dropbox. So, yeah, it allows linking images without garbage. Example:

Oh cool, Thanks. Nice picture btw.

Also, I've switched my vote to Kushan because their units look so more more awesome. :D

However, we don't have a color choice for them. Black/yellow doesnt look good on Kushan.  :o

Any suggestions? If not, I will go with the basic one or my typical cyan/blue combo. Maybe my red combo. Hm.
