Homeworld: Space RTS Play-Along - Mission 4: Great Wastelands - Update 17
Orb:
Homeworld! :o
This will be my first LP and likely end in disaster(for better or worse), but I plan to make it as interactive as possible. This may go against the common norm, but playing a game and showing off my gaming skills isn't really my style.
Anyway, back story/how this is going to work.
History
First off, a history lesson about Homeworld(this is based on memory, feel free to correct me).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)Homeworld was created by Relic entertainment in 1999. This would be the first big game created by Relic, followed by Homeworld 2, Warhammer stuff(im not versed in that), and other big titles.
It was a revolutionary game, containing 3-D space elements and tactical space combat. Graphics were also top notch for the time. It basically propelled Relic into the big time.
Back Story
Some back story now. I really am just summarizing it. You can find pages of the stuff probably somewhere. Also, some of the back story parts will be left void for now, since the plot develops as you play. I'm not sure how I should present it, so expect a jumbled mess.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)Your people live in separated tribes on a desert planet called Kharak. The polar regions are suitable for living, but otherwise the center is an inhospitable desert. Wars occur frequently over limited living space and resources. Time passes, and your people enter "The Age of Reasoning", where significant advances in technology became apparent. We find through testing that we are completely biologically different from almost all other lifeforms on Kharak, suggesting the theory that we did not originate on this planet. Eventually, we launched a powerful radar satellite, which located a metallic husk in the sands of the desert. Few dared to explore the husk(which was in the center of an ancient city), but the few brave that did revealed that the metallic structure appeared to be an advanced space vessel. Inside they found a stone. It had etchings on it, from long ago. It showed a galaxy, with a line pointing outwards toward the center. With one ancient word on it, so ancient it dates before recorded time. Hiigarra.....home.
The stone was nicknamed the guidestone. With a common goal, the tribes put aside their differances so that they may one day return home. It took several generations to build a ship capable of reaching home. Kharak was strip mined, with the desert ever increasing.
The result of all this was the mothership, a ship capable of research, combat, construction, resource gathering, holding 10s of thousands of frozen citizens in cryogenic chambers, and many other untested features. It would be commanded by one human who would have his or her brain physically connected to the ship by wires. This women would be Karan Sjet, a neurologist. She would be fleet command.
The detailed storyline would probably take up 2 pages on this forum. I can put it up if you really want to, but some Google foo should find you what you need.
Plans
Ok, so this is how I plan to do this(for now). People will assign themselves to specific squads, and order those around. Updates will increase during combat. I expect slow going(since this is an RTS), but that means a long LP! ;)
The game also ramps up in difficulty as you go. I've actually only beaten the game once. Mission 14 is about the limit of my gaming skills. I could probably beat it if I tried harder, but as of now its a pretty long mission. Also, ships transfer over from previous missions, so if we screw up big time, we are really messed up late game. I can do restarts on a mission upon request.
Squads will be listed at the end of this post. Most will hopefully be specialized, since having a mixed up glob of units doing a specific task doesn't tend to do well.
Before the Mission
So, the first question. Are we.....
Kushan.
Or....
Taiidan
Colors too.
Rules, Data, and Ect(outdated till I'm bothered to update it)
Squads
Alpha Squadron: 10 Interceptors lead by Sheb
Beta Squadron: 7 light corvettes lead by Shadow
Ships
Orb:
Going to reserve this for whatever.
Also, I think pictures arent showing up. Image hosting sites. =/
Let me see what I can do.
"Edit" Ok, I have to upload them one at a time on image shack in order to get the link I need. If anybody knows a image hosting site where I could upload in bulk, please let me know.
"Edit2" I dont know whats up with the white space. Any fixes?

Ok. To spice things up a tad bit, when signing up for an officer post, you can use this format for a little RP. Its not really required.
Name: Sage Manger
Age: 22
Job: Tactical Officer
Specialty: Overwhelming Offencive
Sex: Male
Background: (I cant be creative enough to think of one).
You guys can RP your posts, make discussions between officers and support staff(which will be everyone else not making decisions) and ect.
Nirur Torir:
I'll be watching this. I haven't spoiled the plot for myself yet, but I doubt I'll ever get around to playing through the game. It's the fleet carry-over combined with OCD, mainly. I feel the need to replay missions until I capture nearly everything with as few losses as possible, which is really, really frustrating, but I can't stop without not playing the game.
I vote Taiidan, with black and yellow. Bee colors are fun.
For the white space, which program are you using?
Please save them as .pngs.

Ah. PNGS. Gotcha. Will do. Not uploading again though, since it took me an hour(I had to do it atleast 4 times, with one little problem coming up each time).
Oh, and you would die on Mission 14.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)There are like 100 ADV Ion Frigates(improved ones only owned by the elite guard) all in a sphere guarding your objective. I think I captured 16 before getting bored. XD
When I retried I forgot the controls and wondered how to stop units current orders. I tried ctrl S but that scuttled my units. Might be a while before I continue that save again.
"Edit" Forgot the program bit. I put the Homeworld disc in my tower, start it up, when I want a picture, I print screen. I paste it in paint, save it as jppg(not anymore), and upload it on image shack one at a time.
"Too many edits" One last things, why PNG?
Ok, after doing it myself, its quite obvious. Much higher quality. It actually looks more high quality than the actual game(lol). Anyway, I'll redo all the pictures since I have the time. Or most of them. The PNG also fixes the white area problem. Thanks.
"ONE LAST EDIT D:" Ok, I've decided to upload pictures of the colors people want. You can ask me to show it for the other faction if I do the other one.
Here is Nirur's suggestion:
SHAD0Wdump:
Your yellow is pale...
