i have a nice water source setup down near my fortress, yet the dwarfs seem to want to go get a drink, half way across the map at the brook....

The area with the brook is where all the wild animals spawn that kill dwarfs...

I have not had this problem yet... Maybe its my fortress design, its in fact pretty big, but the water source is very accessible and much closer then the brook....

Im using the most current version, unless toady just released a new one in the past week or so.

Up until now the only people who ignored zone only drinking was my military dwarfs, it seems even your non military ones will do it also at times.

I've had the same thing.  I try getting my dwarf to dirnk from the admittedly scummy pondwater, and he will instead rush off to the pike-and-lamprey-infested water of the river.

Bloody git...  I'm amazed he hasn't been eaten yet.
