Embarked on one of those weird super hot modded maps (Sol I think?) Embarked near what would normally be a nice calm lakeside environment, strike the earth, yadda yadda, ocean explodes and my dwarves boil on the spot.

then i embarked with 115 of them XD

it was quite the explosion, not that i got to see the whole thing since i'm pretty sure my dorfs were all dead in 100 frames

Giant eagle as the first roaming group. Everyone but the miner died right off (went missing in the river, actually) and then dwarf zombies stormed the fortress and I was all like wtf and the end.

edit: giant eagle man, I forgot that part.

I see I'm not alone in having alligator and crocodile problems on occasion. That's the usual cause of short lived forts for me. I thought I would have a short lived fort with my most recent one, but it seems flocks of giant ravens aren't all that aggressive.

I just embarked between two rivers in a terrifying tropical freshwater swamp.

Undead alligators/crocs/giant lizards with huge mouths and lots of teeth + dwarves = dead dwarves.

One of the first times i played the game.
i had just figured the world map out.
had hit the quick start loadout.
And didn't know what the hell to do.
Abandoned it after a few minutes of confusion.

Yea i definitely lost my first fort in like 5 mins because I decided I needed to read a lot more on the wiki...

My shortest lived one lasted about 10 minutes.

Terrifying area, modded Dwarves for testing. Didn't even get to finish the roof on the hut. Zombies were attacking constantly, and my military was handling that just fine, up until 84 Giant Zombie Mosquito's showed up.

It was rather comical.

I got a announcement about my Axe-Dwarfette being struck down followed by the water buffalo I had penned, I was like "What struck her down?" and I Z leveled up to where she was. And I saw a shitton of Zombie icons and was like "Oh". Then I went to the unit list and saw that they were giant zombie Mosquito's. And the one that killed my Axe-Dwarfette had grabbed her by the tongue, spun her around, and well. The tongue was in a nearby pond.

What proceeded was a hilarious massacre that needed Benny Hill music.

Modded in Xenomophs as playable race, but first world I genned (small) didn't have them. The world was too good to waste though (Had a terrifying region right across a stream from joyous wilds!), so I embarked there with dwarves. Then got the message "It's raining Xenomorph blood!"

Too bad it didn't have the molecular acid quality to it, that would have been funny as hell. Or, if you could have gotten your dwarves inside before that. One hell of a natural defense mechanism against your enemies.

"A vile force of darkness has arrived!"

"Quick!, Urist!, employ the defense mechanism!"

"You mean?"

*Dramatic lighting and music*

"Yes, LOCK THE DOOR! and let ARMOK TAKE THEM!"

Embarked in haunted, ordered my dwarves to build a wall, placed a burrow so they'd all go inside, finished the wall. Ordered some digging, nothing. Removed and redesignated, nothing. After several several SEVERAL minutes of trying to figure this out, some crazy fog hit and hit pretty much every part of the dwarves (I didn't have a roof, apparently the fog was multiple z-levels high since it got in).

That was when I remembered the burrow.

1) Embark was half Haunted volcano. Then a cloud of ash drifted nearby... --> HOLY CARP ASH THRALLS EVERYWHERE! <30 min> --> Your strength has been broken.
2) Terrifying embark. About 15 mins later: Dwarves:0, Giant Sparrow Corpse: 7 (and their little dog, too).

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I embarked in a terrifying region, and was immediately confronted with an undead deer. I figured seven dwarfs could take it in a fight.  No, they died immediately.  Five minute fort death, max.
