About the game init.txt and stuff..
« on: October 04, 2010, 10:39:45 am »

Hello! Does DF use only one CPU core? Cuz my temps are really low..

And does anyone have the ability to make a init.txt file for me with correct settings to run this tileset: http://infernusweb.net/hosting/BlueLight/DwarfFortress/Markvii.png ?
I want the windowed resolution set to 1024x768 and fullscreen to be 1920x1080.. And the tiles should be quadratic and not rectangular (stretched)..

Also I have trouble with the height level keys: I have to press Shift+, and Shift+. to raise/lower view.. I want these keys to be < and >..
I tried changing this ingame, but to no luck.. Does not work..

Also, is it normal that the world generation is slow on a high end computer?

DF only uses 1 core, no multithreading. If it did run multithreading, our FPS would be HUGE!

I doubt it. Whenever it gets multithreaded, itll have 9 million new features that keep the fps at 100 :p Which will be awesome

What kind of keyboard are you using, because on mine, < and > ARE shift+, and shift+.   ???

I changed MY keybindings to , and .. They're the same keys, but without shift, which makes infinitely more sense.

You can change the key bindings. Press ESC ingame and scroll to "change key bindings".
If you want quadratic tiles you have to get a quadratic tileset. Maybe you can simply resize that picture you got there.

You say this as if your FPS is an extension of a body part...

<> are the default command and on qwerty keyboards they are SHIFT + , and SHIFT + .

and you might be able to get a square tile from that by lowering the number of horizontal tiles, though it would be easiest to just use a square tile-set.

I'm pretty sure that that is one of the better pick-up lines around. ;)

I can't help with tilesets, as I believe tiles and resolution changes are the stuff of madness.

However, the "nothing happens" issue with key binding might be manageable.  You aren't being specific on where the problem lies, so let me be over-specific:

Hit "Esc"
Go to "Key Bindings"
Go to "General"
Press arrow keys until you have selected "Move view/cursor up (z)"
Press right arrow to select "Add binding" (I'm guessing this is what you missed)
Hit "Enter"
Input desired command (probably the "<" you keep mentioning)
Hit "Enter"
Repeat for "Move view/cursor down (z)" (probably with ">")
Hit "Esc"
Go to "Save and exit"
Get down with your z-level-shifting self
