Wasn’t it the company that the park owned?

The structural engineering, which is making the damn thing be structurally sound and unlikely to fall over, was apparently done through a third-party - the dynamic engineering, which is interested in making the ride itself safe, was done by the nitwit park owners. Some choice quotes from the indictment:

Quote
As SCHOOLEY admitted, "If we actually knew how to do this, and it could be done that easily, it wouldn't be that spectacular."
Quote
37. HENRY admitted that he was ignoring established industry safety standards because he felt he could redefine those standards with his own achievements. While describing his vision of how Verrückt would change the industry, HENRY explained, "[W]e're going to set the standards up, and set the education up, and we're gonna redefine many of the definables that have been defined in the industry that we couldn't find good reasons for. Like a 48-inch height rule. Why 48 inches? I could never figure out why not 47 inches. *** It made no sense to me. And so we're gonna change all that now in this park, and hopefully change it worldwide in all parks and get back to rational scientific decisions as to why and how we run our facilities."
Quote
When asked why HENRY and SCHOOLEY didn't have the design science down, HENRY answered, "I'm not quite sure yet. Many things, I think. There's a whole bunch of factors that creeped in on this one that we just didn't know about. Obviously things do fall faster than Newton said."

And of course

Quote
While the Palmers were still at the base of the Verrückt seeking medical assistance, a man approached them and introduced himself as Verrückt's designer and builder. The Palmers described this man as standing between 5'8'' and 5'10'' tall, mid-to-late 50s, bearded, wearing blue jeans, a baseball cap and glasses. The man boasted that he and his friend had designed and built the Verrückt together. Despite the fact Richard Palmer was obviously injured and in serious pain, Verrückt's designer continued bragging about his own achievements and his plan to build an even taller Verrückt at another park. The Palmers recalled that the designer seemed totally unconcerned by the fact that Richard Palmer had broken his toes riding Verrückt moments earlier.

That's an impressive ego.

This is the real reason they need the 48 inch height rule.

Sunday's not a bad day to work?

I mean, unless you're retail.  It tends to be busy then

In truth, my problem comes from accidentally setting my alarm clock to 6PM instead of 6AM, and also I work nights and I agreed to a manager's morning shift to help out. That was just all the adrenaline flooding out after making a 20m trip to work into an 8m one through poor driving decisions.

Really it's going to be ridiculously slow today probably, and I'm going to play Final Fantasy 6 for a large portion of the day while I wait for my lunch to get here.

How are everyone

- Yesterday, my new job told me that I should have applied for the tier above my job instead of the one I'm at.
- Then they told me that though I show the skills and apparent requisites on my resume, I still have to wait for the initial 'newhire' period to expire before I get to do anything about it.
- And then, to top it off, I still want to go back to my old job, and they were adamant that I had a future there.

Its going to be a long 3 months.  I had a dream last night.  I had bought stock in my new company off my own dollar, and then they found oil reserves under neath the wooded area out in the back.  I was cashed out, and I agreed to go back to work at my old local.  I told the HR director of my new cash influx, and then that I would return under the condition he didn't tell anyone about it.

Sooooo, what was that about dreams not meaning things?  Doesn't take Jung in the room to analyze that . . .

As a Christian whose holy book includes the real-life interpretation of dreams, I have decided that your dream means you will soon find buried pirate treasure underneath your porch at home.

Called the tech support and they lied about chorus outages in my area cause i was watching the map during the call.
I've looked in my ceiling to see if rats had damaged the interior line. Nothing was seen to make me think its on my side. No adverse weather had caused its outages the two weeks ago it cut off. They even sent out a new modem in the time I was out of town but it comes down to logging a fault with Chorus who own the lines and im scared to pay the fee. Expected to be over 200 bucks but the cunts wont tell me the fee cause they are evasive.
Just wanted to rant.
Thanks

Crossposting this from the science thread because even entertaining the thought that we have a nonlinear history is a massive paradigm shift.

I hope we all know the answer is 'no', not in the sense that they were at modern technological levels.

I hope we all know the answer is 'no', not in the sense that they were at modern technological levels.

That's closed-minded. How would we ever know if there was a spacefaring civilization here? What fossils would they have left? What traces of life? If they existed 2 million years ago, what ruins would have remained? How would you differentiate it from regular rock?

You can't shut yourself off from possibilities simply because they're nonlinear. That's like shying away from calculus because you like pre-algebra better.

It’s not often that you write a paper proposing a hypothesis that you don’t support. Gavin and I don’t believe the Earth once hosted a 50-million-year-old Paleocene civilization. But by asking if we could “see” truly ancient industrial civilizations, we were forced to ask about the generic kinds of impacts any civilization might have on a planet.

The article itself notes that this is just for-fun speculation and that it is very unlikely for there to have been any sort of pre-human advanced civilization on the planet. The more interesting part of it is the analysis of what parts of our civilization would survive the longest (plastics in the ocean, mostly). Don't hype yourself up.

... there's also nothing nonlinear about the hypothesis? Word you're looking for is cyclical, and that's spattered across history ruminations like a particularly enthusiastic porn shoot.
