EDIT: Somewhat relevant, the Norwegian government had contracted an artist to develop plans for an official memorial dedicated to those affected by the July 22nd attacks in 2011. His idea was a massive stone engraving, containing the names of every living person registered as living in Norway at the time of the attacks. The names of the 77 who were killed would be "surrounded with empty space, like a breath of air". The concept would be that people were to look through the monument and find their own names in the manifest, and as a result "Come face-to-fact with a greater realization; that being alive includes a responsibility to others. That it includes, even, a responsibility for the events of July 22nd, 2011."

I say "would be", because the contract was cancelled by the government after approximately three years of work, scrapping the project.

That sounds like a beautiful idea for a memorial, but wouldn't it have to be absolutely hugely massive for it to fit 5 million names in readable script on it?

Admittedly, regardless of feasibility,  it also looses some of it's allure when you realise than a full quarter of that engraving would be taken up by "Tørje Ohlsen" written over and over and over again.

We're talking about a man who outright told a female senator, on live television, that he only didn't rape her because it would be too good for her, a man who thinks torturing gays is the right thing to do, a man who was kicked from the military because, upon the end of the dictatorship he, being a raving reactionary who was outraged by that, planned to destroy Rio's water reservoir and only wasn't arrested due to a bullshit technicality that I strongly suspect was born out of corruption (he writes in block letters/printscript, and thus the judge claimed that the hand-written plans for his attack were totally not hand-written because only cursive script is hand-written and thus wasn't proof that it was his despite the man never, ever having written in cursive).

I do doubt that he'll actually win. Get frightenly close to winning? Yes. But polls tend to be skewed as all fuck, sometimes to an insane degree, and he has more haters than supporters. After all, even the fucking oligarchs, corporate pawns and religious fanatics don't want him because they don't want a dictatorship. He seems to have a strong base because his supporters are as loud and hateful as he is.

Trump is just a corrupt fuckwit and I am actually taking precautions in case Bolsonaro wins to ditch the country, probably for Portugal. What happened after Dilma was impeached (wrongfully*) will pale to the shitstorm that will occurr if Jair Bolsonaro actually wins.

Also while I do think that Lula is at the very least an accomplice in corruption cases (it's hard to be the president and not know your entire cabinet is corrupt, which here is considered, itself, a form of corruption), he wasn't arrested for any particular crimes. They just want him locked up so he can't take part in this election. Hell, a judge even ordered his release but politicians pulled strings with the Federal Police to hold him long enough for another judge to cancel that ruling.

*It's not that I particularly like her or even think she's clean, but the actual case against her was absolute bullshit. In short, her government opted to not pay a debt they owed. Some jurists then went and claimed that this constituted a loan (which it isn't), which the government can't take without congress approval. And since congress decides on guilt, and since congress disliked her for her unwillingness to bend over to them... they removed her and put a vampire in her place.

He is the figurehead of a reactionary movement that thinks the Military Dictatorship (y'know, the one where people were "disappeared" and fake communist attacks were staged (and botched once near the end)) was actually pretty swell. They also tend to overlap with the catholic fanatics I mentioned in the Railgun thread, seeing any change to their perceived, but actually long dead, status quo as a communist satanist plot to mind-wash their children with "gender ideologies" (a bullshit term that has no real definition or basis in reality, but that they use to label any LGBTQ+ or feminist discussion) and other ideologies (because they don't have ideologies, they have the truth).

That said, that base is actually split. A not-insignificant fraction of the zealous, catholic reactionaries instead support the restoration of the monarchy. The Imperial Prince is another sack of shit (he famously commented on the last British royal wedding (Meghan's) that he'd forbid such a thing because the bride was divorced), but I'd actually take him over the Bolsominion.

The moral is this story is that writing in cursive leads to you getting arrested for domestic terrorism. That's my new justification for refusing to learn cursive.
