First day back in class for my last year of college, and of course the computers aren't fully ready yet. Oh well, early lunch I guess.

The class is down quite a bit, which is expected. We'll probably lose another 4-5 students over the semester, the teacher said. Though one person isn't returning because they were hired as an animator over the summer, so that's great for them.

Edit: Apparently some company just bought a bunch of royalty-free songs, and is now cracking down on years-old videos on YouTube that used the old audio, according to some YouTubers I follow. Maximilian Dood has posted a video about its effects on him. Apparently when he originally used it, it was free, and advertised itself as YouTube-safe.

Wait, you can buy royalty-free songs, then start charging royalties on them?
That sounds like a brilliant investment. Where do I sign up? :v

no, they're not charging royalties, they're cracking down on people who didn't pay the one-off licensing fee. royalty-free just means you don't have to pay extra fees for the amount of times the music gets played.

there's no legal basis for them being exempt. The music was copyrighted music, not public domain to start with.

It's just that the licensing fees weren't being enforced. Copyright still exists even if you don't chase up copyright cheats, so if you sell the work then the new owner are fully entitled to chase up the copyright infringers.

"royalty free" doesn't mean "free to use" it just means no ongoing payments. You still need to pay the one-off licensing fee.

Just paid 65$ on a 415$ medical bill.  See, I already paid 350$ to the doctors office 5 months ago, they just neglected to mention it to their billing company.  Hence giant bill out of nowhere :/

I don't think this is the first time they've done this either.  Always keep records kids.  Or in my case pay with your card and your bank keeps records for you.
