Like she said, pre-sliced cheese does exist. It just tastes like shit and you're paying three times as much for it.

Do not diss the cheese slicer, it is a magical thing!

Ah. It's more expensive here as well but not to that degree, and it's the same cheese whoever makes it sells as a block. If they were cut the same you wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you're buying kraft singles or something. And if you're buying kraft singles you are either insane, having a cookout with several dozen people, or can't afford anything else.

You guys can't ask for the nice lady that works the dairy/meat part of the supermarket to slice the stuff for you on the spot?

Also whatever happened to having a sharp knife for cutting that shit with?

Pre-sliced pieces of cheese suck and no longer taste like cheese - if you think they taste the same as freshly cut pieces then you have absolutely no sense of taste.

Why does he need that gadget? Does he not have a knife?

It is a knife, fool

Sure, for pieces of meat, if you want. But why would you ask her to cut up cheese when you can just use a cheese slicer?

So you don't have to own, maintain, or use a cheese slicer.

In other wtf news, I just now noticed some nutjob rebooted mutant football league in the last couple of years. What the hell.

It's better than talking to children.

"Uncle [Th4DwArfY1], do you have your laptop?"
"....yes."
"Can we play Minecraft?"
"....no."
"Why not?"
"I'm going to work soon."
*Scrunching face up*
"Why do you have to go to work?"
"For money?"
"So you... so you can get sweets?"
"....yes."

I mean, sure, if the aim is to make one's life worse in every single way.

"Uncle Frumplas, why are you cutting of your leg?"

Maybe if you go to some hell-store where cheese is sliced with rusty blades weeks in advance, and stored in the open air directly over a dumpster...

For the most part, pre-sliced tastes fine. Maybe not quite as good as something fresh off the block, but it's certainly more convenient.

I find that the cheese that comes in individually plastic-wrapped slices taste godawful, but the sliced cheese that isn't packaged like that is perfectly fine.

I kinda like the ones with paper sheets between the slices, they're very convenient.
But it's funny; I usually use either blocks, or bags of pre-shredded.  I assume the latter is even more heretical than sliced, but it actually works just fine in sandwiches.

I don't have a fancy "cheese slicer" for the blocks, a butterknife or my fingers work fine to eat some dang cheese.  I guess I could get a neat combination grater/slicer like we had growing up... but why tho

I tried some red leicester the other week. Had on cream crackers with smoked salmon. Really nice cheese, an aged cheddar is better than a soft cheese imo.
Then made a pea and pumpkin soup from dinner leftovers and had some wensleydale (cheese gromit) in chunks with the soup and fried potatoes and Gruyère.
If the milk has been dehydrated and reconstituted I dont think you could call that a cheese. As much a cheese as vegan 'cheese'
Shallots are tasty too.

Damn that sounds good.  I used to get, like, quality cheese from the fancy pile.  Nowadays I get the shredded stuff because it works, but I miss the variety.  Dry stuff, sharp stuff, soft oily muenster my dad insists on leaving out on the counter "because it's better at room temperature", and dammit he's right?   wonders why he has has had an ant problem all these years though

For DND yesterday I made another lazy combi-ricebowl of sweat peas, seaweed (need more seaweed), bok choy, green beans, and a cut of chicken.  Didn't have any parsely but fixed that today.  Stews and whatever-a-rice-cooker-makes are so easy and fun for experimenting.

Shallots are the tiny onion things?  They look weird but I'll look out for them when I'm buying seaweed, I know the asian market has them by weight.
But yeah I've gotten used to basic, chemically-prepared cheese.  Because it's very common here and more economical.
honestly tastes great compared to no cheese.  Tasting specialty cheese is a bonus for visiting my dang family, that works

Edit:
Thinking about what my DND characters would eat as typical hard-rations, I automatically went to hard bread and cheese.  Jerky too, particularly since current character's a beefy paladin, but mostly cheese and crackers.
The stuff dad and I ate hiking.
Well, that and fig newtons, but I'm averse to most fruit nowadays

Lots of nuts too, though!  They're so convenient and provide most of a protein combo.
