KeeperRL also does "ASCII for frII, graphics for cash". I'm not sure if ToME and Caves of Qud are still distributing free ASCII versions of the latest build alongside the paid fancy Steam version, but I think they at least used to.

I'm happy so long as my preferred graphics are usable via workshop or something. I'll give the new graphics a go for sure, but I expect I'll want what I'm used to, personally.

ToME free version has graphics, only things its missing are item vault and possessor.

Well, and the dlcs. Plenty of add-on classes and whatnot if you don't want what they offer, though.

I, for one, welcome our new 13 year old troll overlords.

That said, we may be looking at more mods if we do get a large influx.

I really hope the steam version has ascii support. I don't like tilesets in general.

It has been confirmed to be the case.

I'll buy it to support the devs, as long as the price is around 400-500 RUB.

Steam scales down the prices for Russia, otherwise it would be ludicrously expensive for the buyers, considering that Russian market is very lucrative for Steam. IIRC, there was a study where Russia was the second country with the most Steam users.

As an example, Hollow Knight is worth 15 USD (981 in RUB, according to Google), but the game's actual price in Russian Steam Store is 350 RUB (around 5.35 USD, again, according to Google)

Back in my day you played Dwarf Fortress on an Apple II, and every time it wanted to show a message you had to insert the disk for that message and it would tell you what paragraph to look up in the manual, and you had to roll physical dice to see if one of your dwarves went mad, and there were no carp, and you could only get diorite thrones through trade because it would crash and wipe the disk if you tried to build one.

That was the last "good" version of DF, everything since then has been casual trash.

big ol' /s if you couldn't tell.

Wonder how long it'll take for a subset of the steam newbie swarm to filter down to FG&RP. Exciting!
