It turns out that soap made from cooking oil smells like cooking oil.

I am unable to smell sunflower oil raw, and that is the most common cooking oil where I live, so if it is like raw cooking oil, you either have better nose than I, or your cooking oil is different.

I'm curious what veggie oil he used.  Some are better than others. 

If the soap is not curing or making well, add a dash of rapeseed oil, or use coconut oil.  Castor bean oil improves the lather qualities of the resulting soap, etc.

Some blend of palm olein, peanut oil and sesame oil according to the label. Searching it up now, it's unsurprising that it has such a strong odor.

The palm an peanut are probably OK, but the sesame is gonna make a stink, yeah.

Next time try for 100% canola, or Coconut.

All their advertising says is it's made from seltzer water and "our gluten free alcohol base"

Maybe potato wine, maybe just made from nothing but high fructose corn syrup and distilled to like 120 proof, but its not grain based.

Their ingredients statement literally says "alcohol." It's probably literally industrially prepared purified alcohol they bought from an existing manufacturer, they're just trying to pretend they actually brewed something.
