I was watching the Mandalorian during my break yesterday. The gal who does the breads came in and asked what I was watching (after trying to jump scare me for some reason?  ). I told her and, after asking whether I'd got it to see the Hamilton musical (I'd played it in the warehouse a few weeks ago), asked whether I'd had the Disney Channel as a child.

"Emm, no. We did have the tapes though."

Her face: 

So she's 20 and I'm 24. Apparently that's a big enough age gap to warrant the difference between a childhood of VHS and one of Disney Channel.

I didn’t have channels, for a multitude of reasons. I did have vhs, though. None of them were disney, though.

Dizzy Channel was around in the 80s, contemporaneous with the height of VHS.

The difference, is that not everyone had cable, and it was normal to not have cable.

As a premium channel, it was not part of basic cable-- so, it was quite likely that most kids would not have Dizzy Channel, even with households that had cable.


Besides, Dizzy Channel is bad for kids anyway. Have you ever sat down and watched what is on that waste of bandwidth? The life-lessons in its programs turn kids into psychopaths, I swear!

I experienced VHS. In elementary school. Some of the casettes were partialy corrupt though.

I've played a vhs tape within the last year, even _{checking to make sure it still worked before sending it back to the branch library it belonged to :V}

Some folks still have vhs players and no DVD access, stateside. Not many, but enough the libraries I'm working with keep some tapes around. Still see occasional circulation, amazingly.

I have a box of VHS tapes from my childhood under the house somewhere. Plenty of classic movies and a bunch of home-done tapes filled with Rugrats episodes, home videos and such.   

In more recent times I have bought numerous VHS-es from secondhand stores and such, though. At least a couple of bands I like have done VHS releases, too, one of which I bought (Space Bong). I've contributed a fair few tapes to my friends' gigantic VHS collection down in Melbourne, sometimes simply by forgetting to take 'em with me.
There are a couple of weird ones of mine that we still need to watch sometime.

that in the case of goldeneye I was good, in the case of tekkan and virtua fighter okay, and super mario it was inane.

Or do you mean the nerd thing? Because nerds who play rpgs having speech impediments is derived from the stereotype that nerds have speech impediments.

no i mean chrono cross style speech impediments/accents.  Where everybody gets their own unique speech impediment.
