Crap like this is why people keep trying to construct languages (AKA "conlang").  Sure it's a lot of work and they're unlikely to be adopted, but the bar of learnability and clarity set by our evolved languages is so, so low. 

From what I've seen of Romance languages, anyway.  And I hear that English's particularly complicated pedigree makes it particularly difficult to navigate.

Agreed. My post wasn’t actually saying a rule, it was trying to show how supposed rules have exceptions

It helps when you realise the I before E rule is only supposed to apply when you've got a word that makes a single syllable "WE like in Green" sound. The IE in society is s two syllable sound (so-ci-e-ty) and thus doesn't count against the rule.

Except of course, that accepted pronunciation is all over the damn board when it comes to English.


Get a midwesterner, a southerner, and a person from Boston, and 3 people from the North, South, and East of the UK in the same room.

Get them to agree on a phonetics use guide for vowel sounds.

Gotta admit, the third felt really long, but i did enjoy the single player campaign. Except the last mission.  By the time the final missions came around I was so done with it, and then they wanted me to use all three factions at once?
