generally when it comes to christianity I just assume everything is up for debate, even among major denominations, because every time I bother looking it up the answer ends up "yep, they've been arguing over that one"

... though in all seriousness, the soul status of possible extraterrestrials have been bugging theologians for a while now, so, y'know. That might actually be a question someone poses to a religious authority as something other than a joke.

That's not what debatable means. There is no debate or grounds for one in Christianity: Animals don't have souls.

Eh, the only reason to worry about it is if you trust scripture more than you do your god, imo. If there's something there to worry about, have faith god's going to get it right regardless of what some book written by humans say :V

I always figured aliens would have souls since if we do I don't see why they wouldn't, and if god would give us souls he'd probably give them to aliens as well.

Since my God is better than most people's God, I believe God gives souls to all sentient beings.
Thus, Aliens have souls, assuming we're talking about the interesting sentient ones and not the bug-like murder spawns.

Thus, when AI becomes sentient, they get Souls.  Because God is smarter than Humans, and more powerful than Humans, and why can't She do that?
Go ahead.  Tell God that She can't do something.

There's an alternate theory that what think of as "aliens" are what more ancient peoples referred to as "angels and demons."  They share very similar attributes. I mean the stupid Renaissance depiction of angels as little chubby babies doesn't sound anything like what is in the Bible or other religious texts, where the first reaction of anyone seeing a celestial/divine being is to be terrified.

But yeah flaming eyeball wheels and such are pretty cool.  Not just in a "metal" way, but because those angels are depicted as specifically inhuman.  UN-anthropomorphic.  Literally alien.

I'm absolutely not implying they were space aliens, or that they necessarily existed at all.  It's just cool how humans from all cultures look at the unknown and come away with some wild stories.

Well, not all were inhuman. At least until Chronicles 1, angels were described as men. Sometimes terrifying, but men.
