XP is aging into that exact bracket - the people who grew up playing OG Xbox and gaming on XP boxes are hitting the life stage when they have disposable income but nobody but themselves to support.
Crap I forgot all about nostalgia gaming driving the prices of this stuff up, but I wouldn't have thought it would raised the price that much.

You would be shocked to see how bad it can get.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's a bit of an outlier, but there's a fair number of SNES games that are in the $400 range now.

I heard the overpricing of old games is another pump-and-dump scheme perpetrated by the same guys who did the antique coins affair a few decades ago.

Here is a video on it.

Could be a little of both, some super rare and others made to seem rare.

That's specifically in the "graded" market (where you get an institution to label your example as "certified <grade>" rather than just saying "I have this cartridge" or "I have this cartridge, everything that originally came with it, and the box" or "I have this never opened copy of this game, still in the shrink wrap"), which is even more absurd in pricing. The majority of simple cart-only and complete-in-box price hiking is a mixture of market forces. Most significant is the increasing number of people who grew up with them (which isn't necessarily shrinking, as a lot of kids grew up with hand me down systems) aging into the "decent job to pay for things, but no spouse or kids to support" demographic. That's a long-term driver. The pandemic is probably a short term driver, even if the effect was more outsized - people suddenly were stuck at home and had to find something to do, while at the same time most getting pretty hefty assistance money. So suddenly there was a huge demand for a product category that is defined by "stay at home, probably by yourself".

Oh, I remember something about that a number of months ago. Sealed bags of booklets and floppy disks that turned out to not have the actual media on the disk and the booklets were forgeries. Suspicions arose when the bag the items were shipped in wasn't the same as the one they were photographed in.
This was for old PC games like Akalabeth.

Played some stellaris. Its got a little more depth than I gave it credit for.  The numbers man.  If only the music could be better, and the game could be less opaque about its mechanics and under the hood stuff.

Played as a custom made xenophobe nature worhipping amphibians that snowball like crazy with a little micro early on, and a custom rockman purger that is probably less unique than I think.  But the micro there is different, they start unity poor and cant just settle everything before they are strong.

Not vicky, but then again what can be?  had more fun than I thought I would.

Day 3 without power, woop woop.

We got a battery that can charge via solar, borrowed from a friend, so we can charge phones, and I have a friend's house to work at. Luckily we just entered the autumn weather season, so it hasn't been too hot or cold. As far as my little guy is concerned he just needs a lantern on at night to sleep, and he gets to go visit friend's houses for days in a row. Super fun time for him :D

We should have it back on in a day or so though. Turns out that yeah, they didn't get paid for almost a YEAR due to mismanagement, and we got no notifications that anything was wrong because COVID relief made it so they weren't expecting any pay. So yes, we had a conversation about this can't happen again and how we are going to make that a reality together.

There are other uncovered instances of bill mismanagement upon investigation, and we are just kinda being super healthy about it and going over the whys and hows together.

I mean, the way I figured it it's not like it was intentional or something that was being concealed from me, and I've done dumb shit with money before. This one just had some srs bsns consequences.

Power still isn't back on, but we have food, and we have water, and we're not in danger, and I was still able to work becuase some friends let me work from their place. Honestly the whole thing has been good for us as a couple. If I'd have flipped my shit over it, I would have just made it bad altogether. I do want my goddam power back, though.

I still legit enjoy Stellaris. Like no, it's not as deep or engaging as more complex games within that genre, but I enjoy the slow, steady roll of time as my empire unlocks different coloured lasers and finds new and exciting squid people to make calamari out of. Our enjoy calamari with, depending on my diplomatic bent.

Stellaris was hard to play for me because I always tried to be the xenophobic human style civilization but I can't actually play evil in any game for any extended period of time so all those playthroughs just petered out.

Maybe I should install it again and see what how it's changed over the years now that CK3 might not be the next CK2.

Im playing on its second hardest difficulty, and it seems easy until I stop trying to move forward at full steam and suddenly another power decides its roughly equivalent in power again.

The way to be evil, or do any other kind of unnatural conduct, is to actually set out conduct that you would follow.  Take events choices that match your leader/civs ideas even if theyre bad, and before the game starts set rules.  For instance, the xenophobe naturey fishbois refused to force resettlement of pops, and I had to rely on migration to slowly populate a leader caste into worlds they enslaved.  And the slaves had to be given more rights as a result, because fuck me you cant get anything done on worlds that dont have specialists if you want to turn them into anything but a charnal pit or some sort of agri world.  But I also took egalitarian as a civic, so the story really wrote itself naturally.

For me, forcing little conducts allows me to stay in the mindset longer and gives me a little more mechanical challenge.  In this current game I have only encountered Savanna dwelling neighbors, and having conquered 2 and peacesubjujated 1 of them I can mix and match my slaves.  But my fishbois dont like savannas.  Still, no free aliens though, we're xenophobes after all.

Be genocidal, but do the "I'm booting you out of the empire" form instead of "We're gonna shove you into a farm and eat you over the next fifty years" form. Nobody dies, so you definitely have the moral high ground.
