I could never deal with the smell of pawpaw, nor papaya.

They're the same thing.

I've never had bad mango... Sooo good. Also, you can grill them and they taste like happy.
Never really enjoyed watermelon though... Nor rockmelon or honeymelon or anything from that family.

Pumpkin is great though!

It's the same as the difference between button mushrooms, portabellas and criminis.

(Which are all the same mushroom)

That is the point... Where you live, pawpaw and papaya are the same, but that isn't the rule for everybody.

They are literally the same fruit everywhere. But much like those things I listed are the same mushroom, that does not mean they are the same food.

Portabellas are very different from criminis for food purposes, in much the same way veal is different from beef, or cavandish differ from plantain. Even if they are technically the same species, it doesn't make them the same food.

Edit: Whoops, nevermind. Misunderstood. I think. Aren't you from Australia where they are, in fact, the same fruit?

And where I live, pawpaws don't exist.

Where I live Paw Paw is a synonym for Gran' Pappy.

I was wondering what the hell a pawpaw is, so I looked it up on wikipedia. Wikipedia therefore claims that pawpaw is: "Asimina, the pawpaw genus, a genus of trees and shrubs native to eastern North America"

The fact that these species exist naturally on the other end of the continent (mostly at least) explains in part why I'd never heard of it. Apparently not many people have, and many of the references google comes up with can't agree on it, such as:

NPR.org: "The pawpaw is a tropical-type fruit native to North America with a long and almost forgotten history. Thomas Jefferson once prized it, and now ..."

crfg.org: "Origin: The pawpaw is native to the temperate woodlands of the eastern U.S. The American Indian is credited with spreading the pawpaw across the eastern ..."

slowfoodusa.org: "Though the pawpaw is generally unknown to the American public, it is the largest edible fruit native to the US.  The fruit is indigenous to 26 states from northern Florida to Maine and west to Nebraska."

There's also multiple towns and lakes named Paw Paw in the U.S.

So, what the fuck does that have to do with papaya, you crazy foreigners? Apparently they're not necessarily closely related, either (although I've no trouble believing you might be successful in grafting them together or something. Plants don't give a fuck who they share a body with.) Pawpaw are Magnoliids, papaya Eudicots.

Today's dream WTFery brought to you by Lays Potato chips!

Which... yeah. Had a chance to try the chicken and waffles* chips a couple days ago. Today, I had a dream that at least in part featured eating them. Taste was same and errything~

First time in a while I can recall product placement being involved with my subconscious.

*Yeah, I actually cook things that taste like that stuff. Chicken basted with syrup? There you go also goddamn delicious. Also chicken ramen with the right kind of teriyaki sauce added. Point being it was like eating dinner in chip form or something. Me likey, though I'll never buy it 'cause lays is horrifically overpriced.

I just now remembered that a "paw paw" is mentioned in the Disney Jungle Book movie at one point.  Still never seen a "paw paw" in my life, and I do pronounce it differently than papaya.

Pawpaws taste vaguely like banana, if I recall correctly. Gross texture, though.

Disclaimer: it's been like 11 years since I've tasted one.
