"it's a regular hotel - except everyone is a supernatural monster!"
That exists. Lots and lots of times.

What about a normal everyday pirate ship - except everyone is secretly an NSA agent?
They attend pirate parties and form friendships, creating a conflict when they then have to arrest them.

We already have a Super Hero Pirate Ship. Thanks to One Piece.

I'd actually try and go out of my way to watch an adaptation of Monstrous Regiment... Or something with that same setting.

I have a pretty nice set (comfortable, excellent sound quality) of wireless headphones (wireless because my nephew has a habit of trying to wear my headphones and then leaving them where the cord gets caught in my chair, and I'm tired of fixing the cords) with 2 problems. First, the tuning is really battery sensitive, and needs adjusting every twenty minutes or so to stay connected. More annoyingly, the transmitter (plug-in, not battery powered) will shut off after two minutes with low sound levels (low, in this case, is seemingly anything quieter than a cannon), blasting the wearer with horrendous levels of white noise, as the reciever lacks any such auto-off.

What sadistic bastard designed THAT feature?

So uh, China's smog is being compared to a nuclear winter in terms of its effect on crops: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/25/china-toxic-air-pollution-nuclear-winter-scientists?CMP=fb_gu
Quote
He Dongxian, an associate professor at China Agricultural University's College of Water Resources and Civil Engineering, said new research suggested that if the smog persists, Chinese agriculture will suffer conditions "somewhat similar to a nuclear winter".

Quote
He Dongxian, an associate professor with China Agricultural University's College of Water Resources and Civil Engineering, said an experiment in Beijing over recent months showed a drastic slowdown in the photosynthesis process, which allows plants to thrive.
Quote
"A large number of representatives of agricultural companies have suddenly showed up at academic meetings on photosynthesis in recent months and sought desperately for solutions," He said.
Quote
Agricultural companies are experimenting with counter-measures, including installing expensive and electricity-guzzling artificial lighting.
It's so bad they're growing crops with electric lighting because they can't get sunlight. Which in an ironic twist, get their power largely from massively smog-producing coal power plants.

I'm watching a porn documentary. This porn star got her labia trimmed, which is bizarre enough already.

She kept the trimmings and sold them. Someone bought a porn star's labia trimmings.

-snip-

Because high school is a time when most of us became adults.

Technically middle school would be a better fit (since that is when most people begin going through puberty), but the thing is that middle school is miserable and most people don't want to go back to it even in fiction.  On top of that many countries rightly don't have middle school.

I don't even know what a Labia is... and yet I am terrified of finding out.

She said hers were encased in glass or resin or something. I guess the bright side to this is that they weren't pickled.

But you didn't. And now you can't unlearn it. No matter how hard you try.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

AFAIK it's a pretty standard plastic surgery. I don't know many details (feel free to pipe up anyone if you know of any issues beyond standard body shame), but from the before and after pictures I've seen I can see why someone might want to do it. Dunno why ya'll are thinking it weird (unless you're talking specifically about the selling part).

NSFW and probably gross to look it up yourself, anyone who might be thinking that.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
