While talking to my dad during grading he gets a call from work. Words happen and he joked around about Georgia being the Wild West because of open carry.

I looked it up and it's true.

@greatorder: I too agree. I understand the pronunciation guide was created to portray the different sounds with singular symbols, but I think the symbols also create a barrier to those who would make the most use of it; the general public.

"Hi-purr-bur-lee" would be my phonetic spelling but that runs into the original problem, being that you need to know how purr and bur are pronounced.

You can easily find a quick guide in the front/back of any dictionary, or online. I find it quite helpful.
