Also, had a weird moment: I was thinking about spinning, and that got me thinking about space travel, and that got me thinking of FTL in general, and Alcubierre drives in particular. That got me thinking about exotic matter, which got me thinking about how time slows down (Relative to the rest of the universe) when in a strong gravity well (Like orbiting close to the event horizon of a black hole), which got me thinking about how exotic matter would have negative mass, which got me wondering if in the area of influence of the repulsive effect generated by said exotic matter would time speed up. WTF, brain? Why can't you be this awesome on a regular basis?

I figured out how to make an UTAU last night. There are only so many times you can listen to a recording of your own voice to edit it before you start losing it. But it'll all be worth it to hear my computer singing in a reasonable approximation of my voice.

Related: I spent two hours last night recording and rerecording my voice pronouncing every possible Japanese syllable I could think of. My parents may be under the impression that I have regressed to an infant.

Kids were randomly singing Christmas songs in the backseat yesterday (what the hey, it's the only songs they know by heart really well). Which set up the following exchange between my 2-year old son and I when we got home and I was trying to get him out of the car.

"Okay, come on out."
"I scared."
"Why are you scared?"
(looking at the sky with grim determination) "Santa coming."
"Santa?"
"Yeah....He coming."

This line was said in the same tone as "Winter is coming" in Game of Thrones. I have to wonder now if my son sees Santa as this avenging winter spirit that dispenses toys to the chosen and icy death to the unworthy.

This is what I'm going to tell my kids Santa does.

Coal never bothered me because I always figured I would smelt something neat with it (I was 5 and didn't fully understand one lump of coal wouldn't cut it) but a Murderous angry Santa would have scared me.

Unless he's not concerned with justice, just lowering his bottom line. Sticks *are* a lot cheaper than toys.
