No, they're more like mollusk roofies. They inject each other with drugs that stop them from digesting sperm instead of fertilising eggs with it. Because apparently slugs have a special system for digesting sperm cells.

EDIT: Fuck me I've made 47 posts today. This may or may not be a very terrible thing.

Nah, they're contact shot, not actually fired over a distance. No ballistics involved, just sperm digestion-inhibiting pile driving. Unless they miss or it passes through or somethin', I'unno.

It is technically fired, just at point blank range. It gets left jammed in/through the mollusc's mate after the mating is ended and has to be regrown. Often it misses or stabs something important, 'cause snails suck at aiming.

The love dart is fired in the same sense as a bolt gun is fired.
