Has any country ever managed to successfully remove hamburger from the premises?

The Hamburglar can only do so much.

People have been indoctrinated for decades to shoot at zombies, they should have seen this coming.

The only sensible solution is to ensure all cosplayers have real guns, so that they can shoot back at attackers.

I'm WTFing a bit at the phrase "democratic dictatorship".
It's a bit of Marxist dialect. Essentially, it means that the proletariat class have a monopoly on political power, or "dictatorship".

Mm, it's a fun trick of language. It is simultaneously democratic and dictatorial, because the proletariat class isn't universally inclusive. Democracy in that the proletariat (being the "real" people) rule themselves and a dictatorship in that the proletariat also exercises absolute authority over those who aren't among their number, with the practical addition of the government actually being done by the party leadership for the party leadership more than anything else once things have settled down.

The old saw of college socialists is about how the pure vision of Marx was spoiled by corrupt party officials, but the whole structure rests on class-based discrimination. It's just that most people don't think of themselves as bourgeoisie--they identify (rightly or wrongly) with oppressed workers and soldiers rather than factory owners or landholders. You can bet your boots that the kulaks didn't think that things were very democratic after the revolution.

Putnam's lowercasing makes me miss herr shitposter, slightly.

Also, I feel like communism is slightly more viable in the digital age, what with the efficiency of resource gathering and whatnot.
But at the end of the day it's the worst style of government for personal freedom, so who knows.

Well even then the fact that the Communism practices by Russia, for example, didn't look anything like the communism written about by Marx.

I don't really think Marx' ideas were corrupted... I think people didn't even attempt them :P

My saw is separating communism from socialism :P

I agree with you about the inherent issue with the party leadership serving themselves and that the system was flawed.  That being said, holy shit did Stalin ruin everything and I can see the temptation to point the finger at the transition between him and Lenin as when the corruption hit full swing.  I saw this lovely chart about Lenin's closest advisers who would have had a claim to potentially take control of the party; there were >30, and the only 2 that outlived Stalin did so because they fled the country.

Listening to music with Beats headphones, trying a variety of different sources including game music, music on a CD, YouTube, and downloaded directly from the creator/publisher itself.

Holy crap, people actually want their music to sound like this? There's no impact to anything. It sounds like somebody's listening to some really cool music, thirty feet away from you but turned up loud so you can still hear it.

Ah. You've discovered the magic of dynamic range compression.

From a quick Google research, it's not even the issue with the headphones per se, it's an issue with the music - a lot of modern music is mastered horribly, essentially the volume levels are steamrolled flat and boosted to the max level making it sound uniformly loud. Hence, called Loudness War. It's the same thing that makes ads sound louder than actual TV shows, incidentally.

On the other hand, something's up, because devices with Beats audio are apparently using some weird fuckery that actively makes it sound worse when Beats audio is off, and on just adds more compression.

From what I can find, the headphones aren't that great themselves - they boost the bass but there's far more money thrown at the marketing department than at actual engineering. And people will lap up marketing, obviously >_>

Yeah. I've listened to music with genuinely nice headphones, as in ones that I would actually spend a hundred or so on if I had that kind of cash. These Beats headphones don't sound like that.

At least they do actually block quite a bit of outside noise, so they're great for when I'm feeling really antisocial. :P
