One more thing to contribute to the Japanese discussion: they also lack a lot of infrastructure that's important to raising children. One documentary I watched talked about a japanese mother's struggle to find a daycare for her child while she was off working. If you knew that if you were going to have child, you wouldn't be able to look after it properly, would you really want one?

I don't think any part of Japanese culture is particularly xenophilic, but liberal and leftist ideas don't mesh all that well with racialist and traditionalist "we can't let them steal our women and blood" rhetoric.

Japan actually has more attributes of a Xenophobic society.

People are picking up Japan's extreme fascination with other cultures and ideas but didn't pick up on their "otherness" and how little they actually go through with representing those cultures (This isn't even bringing up that Japan does what America loves... and makes other countries the flat villain... Japan has a serious inferiority complex)

Or rather... It would be like looking at American Pulp Novels and think that the USA embraces ancient and tribal cultures because of how fascinated they are with darkest Africa.

---

Mind you while I say this... I'd say that Japan is a transitory country. They have both extremes functioning at once.

They also have a LOT of self-awareness but like... A country they aren't aware of how to fix their problems due to the enormity.

---

I will say one interesting thing about watching Japanese anime and drama... is when the "Moral of the episode" or idea they are pushing... Is counter cultural to a western one.

A highly elitist collectivist society vs. a highly Egalitarian society.

Read it again, that's exactly what he said. "No part of Japan really likes foreigners, but the right-wingers really don't like foreigners."

It's funny, because the Japanese right-wing is basically all about preemptively scaring off fertile foreign NEETs these days.

Uh I don't think any governments will like to welcome NEETs regardless of nationality or fertility.

Well, their approach to citizenship is pretty hardline from what I'm told.
Apparently you absolutely must be born in the country to gain Japanese citizenship? ...Oh wait, nevermind, a quick googling suggests that they just require you to give up your old citizenship. I think I just misremembered, actually.

Isn't this the norm in half the world? As I understand, while many countries do allow citizen/permanent residence status in another country, being a citizen of another country is right out.

There's a decent number of countries that allow multiple citizenship. I am both a citizen of USA and Germany, for example.

USA recognizes dual citizenship but doesn't "endorse" it and you can in fact lose US citizenship if you carry out a range of obligations you have to the other country.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_nationality_law#Dual_citizenship

Quote
A U.S. citizen may lose his or her dual citizenship by obtaining naturalization in a foreign state, by taking an oath or making an affirmation or other formal declaration of allegiance to a foreign state or political subdivision thereof, by serving in the armed forces of a foreign state, or by performing certain other acts, but only if the act was performed "voluntarily and with the intention to relinquish U.S. nationality".

So you can't go and just become a citizen of another state without losing US citizenship, from what I read here. It's more for immigrants, they can become US citizens without being forced to rescind their citizenship somewhere else.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_nationality_law#Dual_nationality

Quote
It is generally difficult to have dual citizenship of Japan and another country, due to the provisions for loss of Japanese nationality when a Japanese national naturalizes in another country (see "Loss of citizenship" above), and the requirement to renounce one's existing citizenships when naturalizing in Japan (see "Naturalization" above).

So, for emigres, it's exactly the same, but Japan also requires immigrants to swear to only Japan, which is where USA and Japan differ. Note that for USA/Japan dual citizenship it makes no difference: USA forces you to lose your citizenship if you swear to a foreign nation, e.g. Japan, so it doesn't matter whether Japan lets you keep American citizenship or not: you lose it from the American side. And if you go from Japan to America then you lose Japanese citizenship because of their emigre laws. The situation is exactly parallel.

Reading a bunch of Forster novels because school. Tried Howard's End. Following post will involvev spoilers.
Jesus Christ. The presentation of the lower-class characters is just... insane.

Forster acknowledged that he knew nothing about the working classes, but wanted to have a lower-middle class young man trying to better himself despite grasping poverty in his book.

So he wrote in an obese Cockney former prostitute barely intelligent enough to speak who uses animal cunning to entrap a struggling and cleanminded intellectual autodidact lowermiddle class boy in marriage, explains that it wouldn't be tragic even if she were to starve to death, then makes no mention of her after her only source of food and shelter is removed. Oh, and uses her as a source of sexual degredation, considers the main hah only sin of the man involved to be against his wife (perhaps reasonable), then liberally if erratically sees no sin at all in her husband committing adultery, because she's "incapable of tragedy" and it's fine to cuckold dumb lowerclass people.

I'm having a hard time getting from the premise to the conclusion via a sane thought process. Pls nerf

Apparently Russia is developing a drone similar to USA's Reaper. It's called "Altair". Nothing is true, everything is permitted?

Canada has a relatively relaxed dual citizenship though not anywhere close to the most relaxed to my knowledge.

Ok here is an odd question and I am quite serious.

Why are some PHDs not worth the paper they are written on?

My theory on this is that it is a combination of Intellectual inbreeding and "political courses".

I am so tired about people denigrating fields of knowledge they don't personally see any merit in, or see any profit in, as if they know everything objectively about what is meritous or that profit is the only point.

I am... So tired.

so tired.
