Oh, right... Later on that night a group of us (including the bar manager) went over to a different pub to say hi to the bartender there. Once we got there, we saw the same two gentlemen standing at the bar.

Now, our bar manager had by no means calmed down after getting on the warpath with these boys, so she immediately went to the bartender and filled him in that they were in no state to be drinking more (it probably didn't help their case that, when they saw her, the annoying one exclaimed "Oh there's the bitch now!").

So we got the same guys kicked out of two bars in one night. The sad part is, the douchebag's friend had been behaving himself just fine the whole evening (near as I could tell, anyways), and was pretty much only dragged down by association...

I'm sorry, Kagus, but after having seen you dressed as a gay pirate in the photo share thread my main takeaway from that story was how funny I found the idea of you being described as a "big scary fuck". xD I suppose it's all in how you present!
Nicely done. I feel kinda bad for the guy who was friends with the troublemaker, but eh, he shoulda done a better job of reining in his companion.

Edit: oops, new page. I can't think of any WTFs right now.

Did an image search for 'into the mouth of madness'.  Except I shortened it as I do sometimes.  To 'Into the mouth'.  :|

I did that to myself.

We all thought it was funny, for pretty much the same reason (most of the folks at the table had in fact seen Gaybeard in the flesh)... Even those who hadn't witnessed my swishbuckling persona just know me as an easy-going, polite, and honestly kinda timid guy.

But at 184cm, I am slightly above average height, and I've been working out fairly regularly since Gaybeard times, so I dunno.

Did you (or someone else?) mention that Norwegian's are culturally predisposed against casual interaction with strangers? I can't remember if that's at all times or if the rules flip around when within the threshold of a pub.

Yeah, there are two situations when interacting with strangers is considered acceptable: 1) On a hike/in the mountains, and 2) Drunk. Otherwise, pretend nobody exists.

EDIT: Come to think of it, we were a table of Norwegians, a Dane, a Finn, and a Scotsman... The asocial energies had formed a harmonic nexus.

And then this random Englishman comes along and just ruins everything. Typical.

I take it a teetotaler wouldn't have very many options for interaction?

I mean, that applies in most of the world.

3) Can I pet your dog?

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

That's... Actually still quite socially awkward. Some of the more progressive individuals will be okay with it, but most folks will be rather taken aback by your coming over and making contact. I know this because I do it.

It's supposed to be something you grow out of. Just ignore the person and the dog and go about your way. It's awful.

If the dog is obviously friendly and approaches me first people don't seem to have a problem, but then that's the only context in which I've ever interacted with a stranger's dog, and it's not that common.

Ey? People seem to like me talking to/petting their dog. It follows a ritualostic formula. You ask the breed, gender and name while stroking. The owner sometimes provides backstory too, but that's optional.

People like their dog to be made much of by strangers, essentially.
