It's a fucking stupid ad, but man you gotta love those Youtube comments where they're very loudly not saying "These people are trans and paedos because of that"

So they decided to go from a easily recognizable logo to some bargain bin modern crap, sounds like they're desperate to stay relevant.

Woke up this morning. When I say certain words a certain way I hear a sound in my left ear like air blowing over metal.
It's only the left ear. It doesn't happen when I hear external sounds (so far) but only when I talk or touch the ear canal.

Basically when I hum a certain way I hear it only while humming. There's no pain. I cleaned it with a q tip just to be safe.

The inside of the ear is not wet or cold but a small part of it feels like it is. I mean like a little tiny point inside the canal.

It isn't quite a ring but maybe a tone like hum and it stops right when I stop humming that way. So I can produce it repeatedly whenever I make a certain hum/tone. It stops when I stop humming.

Right ear doesn't do any of this. This has never happened before.

Edit: Ok, some outside sounds produce it in the left ear but not much and not many sounds so far.... Still weird.

I am not a doctor (medical or otherwise), and even if I was, diagnosis online is never reliable, so this is just a guess.

I think something is lodged in your ear, and resonates at a particular frequency. When there is a sound at or near that frequency within your skull, the loose object amplifies the particular frequency, which is why you hear it extra.

Since your own voice is much louder than external sound, this would be why it's easier to vibrate it with your voice than with external sound.

Looking up Terraria updates, and holy fucking shit, first off the game's older than I realised (But it tracks, given my memories. Just never welded the two together), second so many of the updates are so much older than I thought. The update that added alternate ores? 11 years old. I swear it's maybe 7 years old. The fucking Moon Lord is a decade old in a little over half a year - I remember beating him for the first time like it was a few years back.

Hell, I remember when the game first added hardmode and it was fucking amazing to see something added *after* the endgame of hell.

The older I get the weirder the dates of stuff like this get. Some things feel closer, others further away.

It makes me seriously hope we get some longevity treatment. I know it'd cause Problems(TM) but it feels like I've been robbed of so much time. Probably have, depression does a number on you, but even so...

The thing that blew my mind is the news that Elden Ring came out 2 years ago. That game literally defined my life back when it was fresh, and now I hardly play it even though I still haven't beaten it.

It helps to use other events to put time into perspective. For me, my game of 2023 was Deep Rock Galactic and my game of 2024 is currently Helldivers 2. When you take the time to remember what you were actually doing in that period, the math starts to add up and you realize that the time you lost wasn't wasted.

...some people not even born when this 2007 comic was posted are probably themselves applying to medical school, with an even more disparate experience base. ;)

(Myself, I've been thinking of a particular MUD, recently, coincidentally the one I originally learnt of DF from, in chat... Probably more than a decade since I set foot in it, though. Occasionally checked that it's still active, and noting dev notes still reggularly being posted per month, but maybe a bit scared of it being the time-sink it used to be for me. But I suppose I ought to just shout out FISH!, just this once, for old time's sake.)

Maybe not the MUD you were thinking about, but I remember when Hellmoo was popular on this forum. From what I heard, it allowed you to do every evil thing imaginable (no graphics though). It seems people found it very cathartic to do something they never thought they'd be allowed to do.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the people who played it though, and that in itself blew my mind. The fact that there could be such a deep separation between the player and character. I was the kid who hated GTA because all you did was do crimes in it, and I judged my classmates for liking it. It was one of the many things that forced me to reconsider my perspective on people and morals.

I guess this was also my first encounter with obscenity (although indirect). It's funny how important that issue became to me later in my life. If the purpose of art is to give us a window to understanding human experience, making certain topics explicitly forbidden creates some serious blindspots in our understanding of the psyche (not to even mention the slippery slope of censorship).

HellMOO was weird. Honestly a lot of the more adult elements of it were completely glossed over after the first couple interactions with the game, and you'd interact with them only as far as was mechanically beneficial for you (managing your "horniness" would cause changes in your current strength stat and your ability to focus for supernatural abilities). If anything a lot of those systems served as filters catching out the players you generally did not want to interact with, as they'd get stuck fondling an NPC in some corner for the majority of their game time (before getting spotted by another player and having a grenade lobbed into their square).

It might say something about the human spirit that there were all these tools available for playing out whatever horrific, sadistic fantasies you might have... ...and people predominantly used them to prank each other.

Also if you used one of the ghost traps from Ghostbusters to snag a spirit, and then you ate the damn thing via a junk-munching mutation, you'd get an achievement called "Pacman". Along with what was effectively a large dose of cocaine, for some reason.

I'm guessing the long line of white dots pacman is hewing down, but could be something else.

I assume eating a ghost is quite a spiritual experience.
