That satisfying feeling...
« on: October 22, 2010, 11:36:35 pm »

...Of finally learning the military menu.  Took me months, I feel slow.  But that, my friends, is a marksdwarf practicing with his training ammo, and a small squad levelling up in a danger room.  All properly equipped in their gear.

So, what personal accomplishments did you feel really proud of yourself for learning how to master?

my first pump stack! it was a 100+z level magma pump... didn't realise that i would need more power than a single dwarf valiantly pumping away - so i had to learn how to make a waterwheel power source as well. Then the magma source (the pump stack didn't hit the sea directly) had too small an inlet so it didn't fill properly as the magma was pumped out. So i had to reconfigure again...

Unfortunately after I finally succeeded the FPS dropped to 20 and I more or less stopped playing >.<

Here at Bay12, we're constantly looking for ways to set the world on fire.
But at least after all the chaos, the weather cleared.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Taking the time to set up a military outpost at the entrance to the caverns, complete with a squad on patrol. They intercepted and killed a gremlin while on patrol -- made me happy :)

Killing your first forgotten beast (after going through the previous versions where they either exploded in the most nuclear manner possible or slowly rubbed your dwarves into comas)

Learning the military menu... Then a new version comes out, with an entirely new and more complicated military menu. DWARF FORTRESS!

Getting past the learning curve (easier and easier these days with so many people on the forums), and figuring out the military.

Getting over my phobia of imperfection and dealing with what I have.

Nah. I haven't done that yet. :p

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Also, seeing my magma trap work perfectly.
