Best way to bleed victims?

I am building an aztec-style temple to my own hubris, to be satiated by the blood of goblins, elves, humans and the occasional dwarven noble. I had this idea of dumping prisoners into killing chambers with one spike trap, and then operating it a few times. But I dont know if this is the ideal setup, as I want pools of blood, like the ones I've seen when GCS hack something apart.

Sooo... any input? Maybe lever-driven serrated disk traps?

Hmm. The problem with serrated discs and giant axeblades/etc is that they tend to cause instantaneous death and, other than the initial spurt, don't allow enough time for the victim to bleed out. Most bloody deaths that I can think of involved arrows to the neck--the victims would have enough time to run around trailing huge swathes of sanguine throughout the areas.

Only happens on flukey occasions though.

Anything with less contact area and lots of penetration (spears/spikes/corkscrews) would probably work best.

Throw them in a pit with a GCS.

Do long falls produce enough blood?  Sick war dogs on prisoners.  Shoot crappy quality wooden bolts at them as they run around the pyramid.

This is a useful feature..and this is DF.. so im gonna assume its bugged
That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

What about dotting the floor with wooden training spears and upright spiking naked goblins? Won't that kill them very slowly and produce blood for a short time after each hit?

High falls in my erxpience cause alot of blood,
If you get it right they wouldn't instantly die,
Maybe a fall on to a pointed stick?

Use whips.  Like whip traps.

I once dumped a load of POWs into a 5x5 room with a checkerboard of whips.

It took more than a season to kill said prisoners, and they actually leveled up in the meantime.  And there were gratuitous amounts of blood everywhere.

Have a killing chamber in the bottom, make a massive bloody pool and operate a pump stack making rivers of blood run down it's side, back into the pool, and repeat until everything is blood covered?

Blood doesn't behave like a fluid and cannot be pumped. (sadly)

IIRC, pumps filter out the blood, so what comes out is pure and clean water.

So, no matter what, you have to have everything on the same Z-level or flowing downwards.  If your entire channel is on one Z-level, then you could use some floodgates as wave generators to maybe get the blood running around.
