I think Waste Processing is even worse than Xen for platforming. In Xen, at least the platforms are relatively large and flat IIRC; in Waste Processing the footholds are very small with sloped edges, and they're usually moving to boot. Not to mention that Gordon's feet have absolutely no traction, so you can't find purchase unless you land on a perfectly level surface, with enough room to come to a complete stop so you don't slide off again. You'd think the HEV suit would come with some non-slip boots :-\

Half-Life.

Isn't that the one with all the deadly traps/machinery?

Oh god, I hated that place. Is HL2 better about the platforming at all?

Anywho, today I was ambushed by a Unique bird seven levels higher than me and died horribly, because I was trying to finish exploring Gaur Plain. At least I got to see some awesome scenery porn for a moment beforehand :I

Xenoblade Chronicles.
HL2 has pretty good platforming IIRC, except Ravenholm. You will get lost and you will cry.

Ravenholm isn't so bad except in one area near the end, where it's easy to get turned around and there are infinite zombie spawns to distract you.

I don't really remember much platforming in HL2 at all, but then it's been a long time and I haven't played either of the Episodes.

HL2 certainly toned down on the platforming compared to HL1. Not like that's much of a bad thing, since I don't think HL1 was ever highly praised for its platforming segments :P

I kinda liked the one room with the crates early on, and some of the Xen spacejumping was good fun, but it was otherwise bothersome :/

The worst, though: you remember the elevator shaft you have to climb up? The one with the scientist-falling setpiece? I spent a good twenty minutes dicking around in there because of the wonky ladder physics. It was almost cathartic going through there a second time on my Hard playthrough and doing the whole thing in one shot.

Had a little fun with Anor Londo's Titanite Demon. I guess the demon himself wasn't having very much fun, so he grabbed me with his catch pole and slammed me into the ground twice.

Dark Souls

[Edit]
Kill the sword knight, kite the second and third knights, probably die somewhere in between, grab bloodstain, repeat. 27,000 souls (more than enough for a level) on the ground, and I'm in the big bedroom with the knight right outside of its door.
But then. I keep fucking up parries and I die.

Half an hour of grinding gone because I fucked up something I barely remembered existed.

I don't think I've ever successfully parried. If you need to get past a block that badly, a kick seems much more reliable. I'm sure there's something later in the game that will make me learn to parry, however; probably those knights that killed you :P

Kicks work goddamn wonders... when they work. I would love a way to reliable kick past a Silver Knight's shield, but until my +1 Elite Knight Greaves can break through solid metal I will have to rely on my skills at not parrying. :P
I mean, when I don't mess up, blocking and getting hits in when I can is a reliable but tedious method of killing them.

Also, note to self: stop parrying the goddamn shield bashes all it does it drain stamina AND damage you

Yeah, Silver Knights are basically the game's way of bullying you into learning to parry. Its hard to kill them otherwise, especially if your build isn't as robust as it could be. But they're one of the easiest enemies to parry, once you get the hang of it. I could probably parry Silver Knights to death with my bare hands, if I was patient enough.

The god damn brain walker thing with claws cost me a full 6 credits just to defeat.

Everything from me not being used to the controls (I've never owned any game system aside from the Gamecube and PC, since my parents don't like the idea of spending money on/for video games) to me being not knowing how to deal with the boss to the boss itself wound up with me costing lots of lives.

By the way, that's six credits out of 15 (techincally 14 since I need to spend one to play).
