I've come to the conclusion that whoever was working as the level designers for Mega Man X5 must have been going through some traumatic life experience that they wanted to channel through the game and inflict on the players.

Now, I understand that getting through the first Zero Virus level without Dark Hold was an achievement / trophy (which I got, but will never do again).  But there's no excuse for the start of Volt Kraken's level.  You can literally die before the "READY" message disappears from the screen, which I discovered by not being ready to hammer the jump button almost as soon as the level began.  I must have died 50 times trying to get all of the energy pellets to unlock the capsule component after the jet bike segment, but even trying to beat that segment at all was shockingly hard.  I still don't know how you're supposed to get past the end of that segment, since I tended to get crushed by the autoscroll on the screen no matter what I did.  I just got lucky a couple of times.

After some devastating events
Spoiler: in which (click to show/hide)
I had to go searching through a derelict ship. In the middle of the ship, there are two sharks swimming... at least I thought they were sharks. They're actually robotic sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads and missiles that can one-shot you. I decided to simply swim right past them, and surprisingly they ignored me.

...Because they were going for my follower who instead of teleporting to my position(which they do if they get a certain distance away) she apparently tried to fight them. With a sword. By comparison, I was using a self-designed rifle made largely from aluminum(one of the top-tier materials) along with copper and gold decoration(which added damage as well), and the damage was barely showing despite it being one of the most damaging weapons I've ever made. And despite her carrying revival medicine, she was pretty much instagibbed.

I've seen walkthroughs of the fight, and they've all consisted of directly firing rockets at the thing - using a missile launcher.

It takes a long time, but what you've described makes it sound as though that's going to have more successs than... Whatever the hell is up with the console thing.

So, during the fight with

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

you have to shoot rockets at it using a particular computer console. The action for doing so is straightforward enough- hit triangle at the computer, and you have 30 seconds to line yourself up against a wall, hold L1, and press square to shoot rockets at your enemy. One problem, though- either this PS3 controller is crap or the game is, and the input is being doubly inputted. The game knows that it never fired rockets, but still reset the rocket firing console so that it has to be hit twice more (once to clear the targeting, and once more to actually restart the sequence) in order to attempt (and fail) yet again at firing rockets.

My patience is rapidly going out the window here.

You don't have to use the console to kill Zeke, just take the battle dress and all the rocket launchers you have and blast 'em. It's the same as every fight with Peace Walker.

If you need to heal, wait until Zeke is on another platform then lay down (in cover) and your health will regenerate.

Not technically the last, but it's the most interesting.

My merc company was going well. We had done a decent number of missions, people were leveling up, and we'd had very few casualties. We've even had some success against raiders and had picked up some mail armor. I see a Caravan Escort going the way I was planning on heading anyway, so I pick it up. It's not too long and I don't anticipate too many problems.

It goes ok for a while. The first half of the trip is uneventful, but as the sun sets we get ambushed by a group of bandits. Tough fight, but we get through it without any losses. A few of the men are a bit wounded, though, so I'm hoping the last leg of the journey is quiet.

Night has fallen but the caravan presses on. We are going through a mountain pass that follows a heavily forested valley when we get ambushed. It's deep night and I have no information on who attacked. I considered ditching the caravan, but I'd feel like an idiot if it was just few bandits or a small direwolf pack. So we hold formation, form a shield wall, and see what comes out of the trees.

Orcs! I've never fought orcs before, so I expect a tough fight. At first I just see a single Young Orc, who is wearing very little armor, and a few more heavily armored warriors. But 4 vs 12, we should still be able to handle it.

We handle the initial attack ok. We don't do much damage, but neither do the orcs. The trees make it a bit hard to get the full formation to bear, but it also keeps one of the orcs out of the fight as well. I send a flanker down to draw that one off while we try to whittle down the orcs in front of us. And then the final orc shows up. A berserker, who leaps to the front of the fight and lops the head off one of my shieldmen in a single strike. We focus fire on the green beast, but it just won't go down. The rest of the orcs then charge the line, stunning several warriors and one even using the gap made by our slain comrade to slaughter one of my pole users.

Our defenses start crumbling as our resolve wavers. We start losing warriors left and right, including the flanker who had gone around the side. The orc he'd been trying to tie up charged him, stunned him, and then slaughtered him before he could do anything at all. People start to try and flee, only to be cut down in the attempt.

In the end the entire caravan was slaughtered, with a single archer fleeing for his life from the carnage.

With little gear, only one soldier, and a purse far too light to try and rebuild from, I retire that company to try again with a fresh campaign.

At least this time I will have a better idea of what to expect from orcs.

Yeah, no, orcs are ridiculous. The undead will wear you down with fatigue and fear in a war of attrition with low-quality zombie mooks, but orcs will just knock you over like the steel-clad structural support pillars they are.

And berserkers, guh... Hopping, skipping and leaping warrior-priests shrieking the praises of the great god Kwee'Snart as they just obliterate and bisect everyone nearby.

Mirror's Edge
In the Shard, when you have to climb out the elevator's escape hatch into the shafts, there's actually dudes that pry open the elevator door and shoot you if you're too slow.  Bet you can't kill those guys.

Not a death so much as a massive derp. Was trying to get Jarl Skald to sell me a plot of land, but one of the requisite quests wasn't coming up in dialogue. I had already done the first required quest {Vaermina's artifact quest}, yet nothing I did caused the other one to appear. Since it's a radiant quest(kill a giant at a random place), I figured I had to finish up any other existing radiant quests in my log. That took... a while. Still nothing.

Then I looked it up(several times), and eventually noticed that the second quest has a fairly high level requirement which I don't meet yet. *facepalm*

Guess I'm not building that house in Dawnstar anytime soon.

Skyrim belongs to the Nerds!

Also, personally I picked the plot in Hjaalmarch because you get access to the fishery, and thereby the most potent readily-available poison in the game. Plus I think it's kinda funny to just throw down a house in the middle of a swamp...

Having to complete Train Rush within 10 seconds is bad enough, were it not for the fact that at one part I'm being shot at by sped up homing rockets while having to touch falling platforms in order to access the next area of the level.
