I picked FTL back up because I was too tired for a new game. I was doing very well with the Engi B ship, having gained 2 humans and brought my pilot, engines, and shields up to 2 stars each. Then I hit an ion storm that knocked out my shields, weapons, and something else (drones?) while a beam drone took me apart. Full health to dead, because I couldn't do anything but sit there and die.
Welcome to FTL! Enjoy your ride!

It's the same reason I lost to the boss last time. Hacking drone disabled weapons, and I couldn't get through 3 shields without weapons.

Too few systems for one or more (3 with the ion storm?) to disable them. I assume that's why the game got uninstalled last time.

Game got uninstalled last time for me because I kept getting weapons used against me that could go through two layers of shields and still cause me hull damage in sector 1.

On my long walk from Yantar (in which i shutdown the miracle machine recently so we could now easily navigate the factory grounds in Yantar) to Jupiter i moved to Dead City, the mercenary faction main stronghold.
I was walking along with a companion when we recieved a message from ecologist faction member being in trouble with monolith troopers.

It was happening not too far from our arrival point, so we moved to help the surviving scientist. After killing the 3 monolith guys that were present we then moved in hoping to get some good loot (as the surviving scientist was doing too) .
Bullets started to rain while we were crossing the street that was separating us from the monolith corpses.

The bullets were coming from the far end of that street, the mercenary faction building that is their main base that by now seemed fully alerted to our presence, i forgot about them hoping we were far enough to avoid detection, and the adrenalin rush of the firefight had made me a bit careless.

I took cover behind a building corner but my team member decided to fight back and got killed, i lost track of the ecologist guy , maybe he was safe as it was possible his faction was not at war with the mercenary ones, unlike mine (i was a duty member in that run) .

As i had a  nice scope on my weapon, i decided to just try to return fire for a few shots then going back to behind the corner to benefit from the hard cover. I took down a couple of mercenary members that were approaching my position, giving me a bit too much confidence that my positioning was good. And it was not.
Because that distracted me enough for not noticing a few other mercs that had circled around the building and were coming from the other side, ending my character.

I nearly met the boatman for the first time in 3.5 years in Fallen London.  Technically I didn't die.  But technically I wouldn't have, and in a way I did - the lines blur together down there.

It began when I discovered that I needed to capture the Storm-Bird.  I have no idea why, and I think I need three of them.  It's a creature of Parabola, the dreamlike world behind mirrors, but I had hunted such creatures before.  But not this one, because this one has requires a very special lure...  It only appears to those who are completely and utterly insane.

So I captured a truly nightmarish Parabolan albatross, donned a very mushroomy bonnet, and started feeding the Empress's dog biscuits.  I still don't know the story of that dog.  In life it's as adorable as a puppy, in dreams it is The Eater of Chains and seems to resent attention.

Well, I miscalculated.  I needed to go insane in the mirror-world, not London.  Going insane in London sends you to... Somewhere Else.  The Mirror-Marshes, very probably Parabola, but not in any state to hunt a bird.  I wandered there for a while, learning of the cities that fell, before awakening in cold sweat and strange welts.  Then returning undeterred to her deathless majesty's court and adorable doggo.

This time I was more sensible - oh, so sensible!  I walked through the mirror with nerves frayed but intact, took stock of my camp of rubbery hirelings, THEN donned my moldy hat.

What followed was described as "a conflagration", wherein one's nightmares forget that they aren't real.  My body melted like wax though, so it wasn't all bad.  Mostly just chaos, and nonsense, and two black dots swooping down - the eyes of a great bird.  Talons grasped my arm and saved me from myself, pulling me away.  It left me to recover, flapping away with my confusion.  And something more - either by accident or by overzealous healing, it also pulled away some of my understanding of Parabola, that dangerous knowledge.  I choose to believe it wanted to help.  And now I had its scent.

The merest glimmer of a hint of its scent, but that was enough!  I wandered Parabola for hours, triangulating it.  Pinning it down.  Confronting it and watching it flee.  Finding its nest.  Ambushing it in whatever passes for night in that place.

It was a vicious struggle, with high stakes.  It had stolen my academic understanding of Parabolan anatomy, and I continually failed to harm it.  I kept trying, my human body coming apart - still human and alive, never an undead!  Soulless sure, and of oft-fractured mind, but I clung to my body's continuance as a last little piece of myself.

If I had pushed any father I would have lost even that despicable token.  Instead I barely... by a hair's breath... survived the encounter.  2 points away from meeting the boatman.  I'm an excellent chess player, but I never play with the normal pieces.

I think, maybe, I've had enough of Parabola for a while.  For months I zailed the zee in zearch of my zoul... pirating random tradeships on the very, very rare chance they might have it.  Somehow I feel like that would be the better course, instead of plaguing this bird who saves the lost in the land behind the mirrors.

fallen london is a text-based rpg.  about london that and into the sea and into a large oceanic cavern filled with mutants, cave monsters, nearly and totally undead, and demons.

And insanity.  even sane people in london are insane compared to the surface worlders.  which do have limited contact with london.

This is a song about the zee next to Fallen London that maybe gives a sense of the lore.  Fallen London itself is a metropolitan locale all about social hijinks, tinged with the fact that it's been pulled underground.  Real food and drink are rare, it's mushrooms for breakfast lunch tea and drink.

Think Ankh-Morpork.  Don't drink the river-water, unless you want the GooD DrEamz.

And there's a dream land, beyond the mirror.  Full of light, opposite of your dark underground life.   Too much light, sickly light.  The cats who wander the dark streets are now panthers and lions and they talk.  They mock.  Some things barely change, eh?

Got distracted in the middle of a pitched firefight because my antivirus decided that I HAD TO above all else see what unnecessary features it decided to install as well as demand I restart my PC. I didn't die immediately, but it threw me off enough for the enemy to get the upper hand. Not helping was taking cover next to what I thought was an ally but was actually an enemy assault wanzer shooting me in the back.

Front Mission 3 did have infantry included, and it only really worked by making wanzer weapons do arbitrarily small amounts of damage to infantry such that it'd take 2-3 attacks to take one out. Enemy infantry generally had big anti-wanzer rifles that did a decent bit of damage, while pilots (ejections were a thing) had pistols that were laughably ineffective.

Front Mission 5 did have a few cut scenes with infantry (the protagonist starts as a footslogger, if I recall) to illustrate how crummy it is.

Ah, such a fall from grace that series. A shame the fifth one never got localized, though there is thankfully an english patch floating around.

As to my own, nothing too fancy. Skaven, skaven, more skaven, and ambushes.

I know I've said it before, but it's a setting that would benefit greatly from having some tabletop/pen-and-paper rules for it.

The main villain is utter bullshit. The first part of his fight, his main combo is either launching multiple, dense salvos that can potentially one-shot or launching the missiles in a circle around the arena which then make impossible turns to home in on me. The first is easier to dodge but lethal, the second is a pain in the ass. The second stage, he alternates between firing two slow, but damaging missiles and activating his super edgelord powers to attack me with his sword. The problem with the sword attack is that he either comes at an angle I can't dodge from or the bastard feints in such a way that I can't dodge in time if it's real, or if it's fake and I dodge I don't have time to perform another dodge. I only reached the third part once, and was vaporized by something I couldn't see.

It's not necessarily the repeated deaths that are pissing me off, it's that every time I restart, I have to listen to this edgy little bitch spout his constant garbage, not helped by the fact that bosses never shut up during the battle.

Today's challenge was to steal the Love Device with a stun rifle and a recharging glitch trap (plus a one-use sidewinder teleporter).  Not the worst... until you see that the character is shaky (and weak), the guards on the first ship all have teleporters, and the gun is loud.

All the nearby guards heard the shot and instantly teleported next to me
One got stunned by my shot by pure chance, since my aim was randomized but irrelevant since they teleported to random locations around me
I got another shot off directly into someone, stunning them (there's a cooldown on their teleporting)
The alarm went off
I used my one sidewinder charge to get some distance
I only had 20 seconds to act, so I tried the same thing and got pwned.  Managed to glitch-trap one of them though.

I'm replaying it now and I think I see how it's possible, at least.  Carefully pulling the guards one at a time by firing at nothing, so they teleport up to me, then stun them point-blank.  I could use the glitch-trap but it's kinda a trap since their guns are actually valuable - with enough handguns I can do an Assassin Asha and maybe actually hit something with one of them.

Still, blew my chance before thinking things through.  Tricky!  The short alarm timer and the bonus objective of speed didn't help.  Though since the bonus objective is speed, making the "perfect day" bonus unachievable, I suppose using the shop is a potential option too.

Heat Signature

Edit: Oh wow it's working, except that a couple guards *don't* have teleporters, which means they just raise the alarm instead of investigating the noise.  Clever!!

Lost the GDI mission in Command and Conquer 3 where you have to protect the damaged base from ridiculous waves of Nod infantry and vehicles twice.  Not from the waves of attackers, because they're pretty easy to deal with when you build a few rifle squads who build fox holes and a dozen predators to deal with the vehicles.

No, both times I lost because I looked away from the MCV I had to escort back to base.  Both times, I cleared all of the enemies between the MCV and the base, sent my escort ahead of it and ordered them all to return to base, then changed my attention back to the base to repair the predators that were being attacked at the same time.  Both times, within seconds, I got the mission failed notification.  Does the MCV self destruct if you stop watching it...?

On the third time, I watched it and saw like 5 squads of suicide bombers spawned and ran past the escorts.  Presumably they blew up the MCV the last few times, but this time I had a ton of APCs that I could order to attack move back to them, and they mopped them up.

I remembered hating this mission 10 years ago when I first played it, and now I remember why.

Battle against Matadormon. Generally, bosses in the main storyline don't pull absurd gimmicks, or at least not ones that absolutely destroy you. This guy, though, not only has insane speed that lets him get two turns in a row very often(or his AI script lets him cut in, a few enemies do that), but he spams a move that buffs your team's attack, but debuffs intelligence and defense, and inflicts Panic(aka standard RPG confusion) all at once. Even if one of your party eventually recovers from Panic, it's almost guaranteed that he'll do it again the very next turn.

Had to leave the dungeon, go all the way to not-legally-allowed-to-call-it-Tower Records* in Shibuya to buy a large pile of Panic Barriers(one gives 50% resistance, two give immunity) for a team consisting of MagnaAngemon, Duramon, and Crowmon to block that crap.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Of course, boss fights not the main storyline...

A boss fight against Seraphimon, Angewomon, and MagnaAngemon. All three specialize in healing. It's not hard to see the difficulties involved in that particular sentence. Seraphimon can heal for over 2200HP, more than any one of them have. The other two can heal the whole group for over 700HP each, still more than my entire party can inflict in set of turns, and they both have a high chance to use it on their turns.

For several attempts it was literally impossible to actually inflict damage. Eventually won by going through the Digimon I had with me(as far as I know I couldn't leave the dungeon) to see who could inflict Panic(it worked well enough for Matadormon against me) on those glory-holy assholes, and got pretty lucky since all three have resistance.

After stuffing six employees into "Everything will be fine ^_^" iron maiden, i discovered eldritch knowledge: if you stuff employees into "Everything will be fine ^_^" iron maiden, they will die. For the miniscule box gain. Guess it was just a noob trap after all.
