So, quickly downloaded this to see what it's like, since it actually looks like quite a handy tool for finding embarks.

So, I download the zip, extract to my Dwarf Fortress tools folder...
Unfortunately it's not running - It claims there's a misconfiguration.
Do I have to put it somewhere, or does it need some external files first?
(Including the ones it opens from DF, since they're in the DF folder!)

Edit: To be more precice, it's telling me to reinstall. I think it's missing a DLL(/DLL out of date)?

there's some Visual C++ Redis installers linked in the stonesense thread that could help.

Here

VC++ Redist... That's wierd. I've got visual studio '08 installed already.
Plus I've been using stonesense on this computer before.

I guess I should go look for the '08 redists, unless they've been preinstalled. Oh boy.

Hmm, same error:
Code: [Select]
\Dwarf Fortress\IsoWorld_0.02\IsoWorld.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
(Just so we know what the error message is, for sure.)

Some additional information: I've just run the '08 VC++ Redist package, and it installed fine. I've had this error before and after install.. Perhaps I need to restart. I'll be able to update that when I get a chance to restart.

I can't believe I actually googled that installer though. I had the exact one still lying around on my network. Heh.

the 08 and 05 redists aren't the same, actually.

you often need both.

Is there any way to view zoomed maps?
I mean those maps what we see upon embarking (when every worldgen square expands in 48*48 tiles).
They're generating in worldgen too as every embark they're stays the same.

that's what's shown, actually.

one tile here is 48x48 fort tiles.

this is also the equivalent of the adventure mode travel map.

I meant the vice versa variant - the view of those 48*48 fort tiles, not only zoomed out map squares. ;-)

well, that info doesn't actually exist till you embark. it's procedurally generated, which means it'll always be the same, but it's still made new when it's needed.

Minor feature request?   An optional grid that allows you to see where the edges of a worldmap tile are?

Kinda hard to explain, I was trying to find an embark with a large natural waterfall with this and discovered that the majority of the big worldgen waterfalls seem to be on the edge of worldmap tiles, preventing you from embarking on them because your fortress cannot be half in one tile half in the other.   Some kind of toggleable grid would make it easier to see if an interesting map layout is in a position that can actually be embarked on.

Anyway, awesome program Japa!  Keep up the good work!
