How Many Fortresses Do You Build In One World?

I'm curious if I'm in the minority being someone who just makes forts until one "sticks", plays it up, then makes a new world rather than use the persistant universe features.

I should probably have my head checked, because I find myself in complete agreement with Nikov.

I will have 2-3 worlds that I gen forts in for each version and then I have one "adventurer mode" world where I will place very few (if any) forts.

This is a useful feature..and this is DF.. so im gonna assume its bugged
That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

I play until I run out of cool spots to play on.

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

The rate of version updates and my own modding forces me to essentially generate a new world after each fortress to accommodate the changes.

It takes me some effort to actually play a fort out until it's end or go through with abandoning it to start another in the same world. I think I've only had about five in the same world any time this year.

When I first started playing I used to have many very short lived forts in the same world though.

Maybe two or three a world, using the best spots (read: no aquifer).

I've never had more than one fort in a world, but that's because I have other games that I have paid money for.
I generally make one fort a version, and never move over saves.

Just means you should pay money for this game.

My fortresses tend to be short lived (I have a short attention span at times), so I tend to have lots of fortresses. Very few of my fortresses die due to epic battles or stupid mistakes, rather the dwarves just get bored of a certain place. I don't do a world regeneration either unless there is a specific reason to, like a new version or something.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

One, though "healthy fortress then move on" is probably not accurate.  :)

Usually lots of forts per map. My forts tend to be short-lived, 3 to 5 years on average before I get bored and think up a new design to try. I generally have 2 worlds genned up, 1 without caverns and 1 with a single cavern layer, and I plop down forts as the mood strikes.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.
