Are those elven bow skill bonus supposed to make them superarchers hardcoded or actually defined somewhere in the raws ?

In the creature_standard.txt i find nothing bow-related in the elf entry, and in the elf civ entry in entity_default.txt i find only this that could relate

There it has item improvement, better item may mean better bows and better arrow damage, but that token isn't unique to elves, as it's found in other entities, not just elves)

I think it's mostly just a placebo effect. Though elves also have a smaller number of weapon types to work with compared to other races, so they are also more likely to carry bows. Only kobolds and subterranean animal-people have fewer weapons to choose from. This may inflate the number of elf-bow-related deaths somewhat.

Its more to do with the amount of open space and moving liquid and 'fun'ny structures, etc.  Its trolls and holes and doors and multiple dead ends and whatnot.

You can try reducing the maxpop numbers, but an easier thing to do is travel light and run.  Some of those sites are simply unplayable, and many just crash outright.   Ive had a few that played pretty well, and one even was smooth as the wilderness.  Just have to accept that the sites are the most alpha part of the Dwarf fortress Alpha.

I can't figure out how to attack things. It says it's the same as for movement, but that definitely does not work. My weapon is out, there is a giant weasel adjacent to me.

try alt+a instead.  by defualt you ignore most critters (neutrals).


maybe its shift?  idk i set my config to shiftA though

okay thanks. now umm, how do I butcher a creature. I have wielded it, dropped it, both while wielding a dagger and without.

It says x but nothing comes up under butcher. I want to feast on this kea's corpse.

fortress mode rules on butchering critters.  gotta be large enough.

other than that, hold a sharp object in your hand or have one on the ground.  even just a bolt

god this is confusing. I found a lair and a goblin fortress and I can't find them when I stop traveling. After like an hour of wandering I found a necro tower, only to be killed. grrr

I believe the proper term is 'chainsword'. :P  Those things seem a little nerfed, but still countable as OP.  I didnt realize they worked.

Has anybody ever sucessfully completed the 'cause trouble' quest/mission? I'm pretty positive that one is broken. Theres no bug report for it though.

Somebody reported the purpose of it isnt to kill anyone but to punch people and generally be an ass.  Bragging and shouting and fighting.

But I have not.  Nor know of anybody receiving any sort of recognition for doing so.

I tried to do that, but I accidentially killed someone and it apparently escalated to no quarter after I accidentially wrestled an iron breastplate off of a soldier.

Not sure if it'll de-escalate.

I would bring companions along, but you can't tell them 'don't kill people, just rough them up.' It's also all too easy to accidentially kill someone via punching to the head for example.
