Really depends and the plant in question and the time of year.  Fall is the best time for picking up fleshy things to eat.

You weren't doing the wrong thing. You were just doing it at the wrong time. Or at the right time, but with the wrong plant.

Ah, so I can only pick veggies when they're ready?
I should've guessed it'd be just like real life  ::) Dwarf Fortress knows all as per usual
Thanks a lot, now my turnip-throwing quest begins... after I get the season to fall or whenever.

Can wooden shields still deflect dragon flame?

Yes, but blocking a fire attack won't change the chance of being burned by the surrounding fire caused by the fire attack. Fire, like web, feels very luck based. Perhaps others have had different experiences.

Medic!

I'm walking around with a silver bolt stuck through my ribs. How can I pull it out? Should I pull it out?

Shift, plus <I>nteract.
You'll bleed for a little bit, but it's better than having a crossbow bolt in your ribcage.

Sometimes I just let them there... I once had 23 bolts stuck on me... I was getting encumbered from them, so I had to take them out. :(

Can vampire adventurers become werewolves, or werewolf adventurers become vampires?

Is bronze now as good as iron, or is iron still superior? (And why?)

Bronze and iron are close to each other, in terms of material values. I don't believe that your choice of one over the other would matter too much. Either or is still a much better choice than copper or non-metal armours.

I don't have much to recommend for actual builds though. Just try and keep yourself as covered as possible. A mail shirt, some greaves, a pair of gauntlets, and a pair of high boots should cover most of your body. A breastplate offers additional protection to the upper and lower body, but be aware of the risk of over-encumbering yourself. Some tips would include always wearing high boots instead of low and being sure to wear a helmet. Do not wear a cap; those only have a 50% chance to protect against a blow.

Can vampire adventurers become werewolves, or werewolf adventurers become vampires?

Vampires and werebeasts are exclusive to each other. You cannot become both, unfortunately.

Unless you mod in your own variants that are compatible with each other, of course.

Though you should be able to become a necromancer or a husk regardless of your vampire/werebeast status.

Yeah, but can you become one and then become the other (ceasing to be the first)?

e.g. Become werewolf to replace missing limb, then drink vampire blood to become vampire.

No, the curses are permanent, and having one will prevent you from becoming the other. You cannot cure being a vampire or a werebeast, and a werebeast can drink as much vampire blood as they want without it having any affect on them. Likewise, a vampire can be bitten repeatedly by a werebeast without any threat of turning into one.

On another note, a mummy's curse is terrible.

On another note, a mummy's curse will also prevent you from being able to become a vampire or a werebeast. As if their curses weren't bad enough already.
What mummy's curse do? For how long?

I believe the curse forces bad rolls for combat, forever...
