I remember I was a total fucking Looney Toons nerd. No shame.

Looney Toons and most of those older cartoons were the shit. How is there any shame in that?

Found that one on Snopes a while back and half the thread lost its credibility instantaneously.
It's not so much the truth of it, but rather the possibility of the idea. And while I certainly couldn't see it with a knife murderer and a younger girl (as the usual story goes) I could certainly see something similar happening if say, a random homeless person broke in because the older woman was a shut in and he was just looking for someplace warm without realizing anyone was home. Once he sees her he freezes to see if she is going to notice him, then quietly slips away and lets himself back out of the house since he now knows it is occupied.

For a second, I thought you were saying "were shit". Thank God for a re-read.
Old cartoons are amazing. When I watched them as a kid, I didn't even realize they weren't current for my era (Early 2000s). I think I must have ignored the racist bits. Though, they weren't that offensive, I think.

Animated nonsense, afaik.

Looney toons, when it wasn't being ridiculously rascist/sexist/whateverist was cool. Although some episodes were complete mindfucks, especially when someone broke the fourth wall.

Wait.

People are actually still offended by Looney Toons being well, quite obviously showing some signs of the times it was made in? That's even counting that most of the problem shorts were almost never broadcast on TV too.

Either this generation is more sensitive than I thought, or I'm just reacting too cynically to this. But... Hey right topic.

I wonder if there's anything in say... Woody Woodpecker that offends anyone these days. I loved the shit out of that one too when I was little.

Yeah, I've seen some of the ones that were cut and they're mostly the ones I was talking about. Looney Toons is more occasionally cringe-worthy then actually offensive.

Actually offensive? Probably not. Someone having a dim conception that it might offend somebody else, so it is inexcusably racist? Almost certainly.

I liked Looney Toons as a kid, but it always made me sad that Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote never came out on top. Same goes for Tom (of Tom and Jerry).
Their 'protagonists' always annoyed the heck out of kid-me.

Mostly agree. Jerry was awesome though.

The worst part was when tom and jerry talked and sang and had to save an orphan girl.

I think Cartoon Network made Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry reboots, except the former actually made some degree of sense and took out most of the slapstick and the latter had much less pronounced violence.

The old stuff was cool though. Even the outdated ones--I specifically remember the Looney Tunes where Daffy Duck tries to avoid the draft and a couple wartime generic Merrie Melodies lampshading resource conservation--were pretty funny if you got the context.

There was also 1943's Super-Rabbit (the one where Bugs Bunny somehow makes carrots that give him superpowers), which ended when the fight between Bugs and his nemesis-of-the-day was interrupted by  Bugs declaring "This is a job for a real Superman", donning a Marine uniform, and marching along a road labled "To Tokyo" while singing the Marine Hymn. The Marines were so pleased with the short that they officially made Bugs Bunny a private (to the extent of minting dog tags for the character), and "promoted" him throughout the war.
